Summary: Quiet Time - an intelligent, riveting thriller
Review: After a prologue that screams to be made into a movie, Quiet Time sets the hook and keeps you on the line right to the end.

College sweethearts, Tim Scott and Sari Segal, are about to be married when Tim's mother, Peggy is brutally murdered in the family's home. Tim's father becomes the prime suspect and while Tim stands by him, Sari is not so sure. Ultimately, their marriage crumbles, the police are unable to solve the crime, and Sari and the former lead detective on the case go it alone - determined to solve the crime themselves, uncovering sinister family secrets along the way.

As with her first novel, "Blind Spot", Stephanie Kane combines a wonderfully intricate plot with remarkable detail to produce a story that snaps with realism and intrigue. Kane is becoming a major talent. I can't wait for her next book!

Summary: Defining Quiet Time
Review: I tend to prefer mysteries over suspence novels but this one intriqued me. It had enough mystery to kept me engaged -- how would the killer by unmasked? What was "quiet time?" What secrets lurked beneath the family's silence?

The behaviors of the main characters made sense as the motives were uncovered; and as a psychotherapist with almost two decades of experience, I was delighted by that.

As a mystery buff I was pleased that the author's logic matched mine--I got each critical clue just a page or two before it was revealed--a sign of a good story.

Definitely worth the time and money to read.

Summary: A Compelling Story
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read Blind Spot and liked Quiet time even more. Stephanie Kane is the type of writer who knows as much about human nature as she seems to know about the law. Blind Spot is original and compelling. You should read it.

Summary: Quiet Time is a Waste of Time
Review: I'm not sure why this book was recommended for me. I found it one of the poorest written books that I have ever read. It was also very outdated. I'm not even sure why I finished this book.

Summary: An atmospheric gothic like work of suspense
Review: In the small suburban town of Gillman, Sari Siegal and Tim Scott are going to be married and both are delighted at the prospect. Sari knows that the Scotts don't like her even as she senses there is something off kilter about them. However, she adheres to the belief that she is marrying the man, not the family. That myth explodes when Peggy Scott is murdered and her husband Warren is charged with the crime. Even though Tim and his sister insist that their father is innocent, Sari has some doubt based on discrepancies in Warren's story.

She doesn't express those doubts to the police and eventually the charges against Warren are dropped. Sari and Tim marry but a few years later he walks out on her, unable to cope with anything connected to that time in his life. Sari teams up with the former detective in charge of the Scott case in the hope that with a little teamwork, they will bring a murderer to justice.

This is an atmospheric gothic like work of suspense that imbues the reader with the feeling that something is going to happen very soon. Sari is an easy character to like; vulnerable and hurting yet determined to see that justice is served. The supporting characters are very well developed and play a pivotal role in moving the story line forward. Stephanie Kane is a terrific storyteller who knows how to grab the attention of the audience and keeps it.

Summary: "Quiet Time" by Stephanie Kane
Review: Kane's second novel, an engaging tale of sustained suspense, dysfunctional relationships, murder, and mystery, is the kind of highly enjoyable "escapist" literature that we all could use right now. It will please everyone who likes a well-told story.

Summary: Brava!
Review: Move over Patterson and Grisham. This lawyer turned suspense/mystery writer is a new peer! In a work more tightly written than her first book, Stephanie Kane's Quiet Time takes the reader through several psyches and develops the plot from the characters' perspectives. The sense of authenticity of the heroine is eerie. And time, often the weakness in a plot of this sort, flows naturally and easily. Kane's not just a fine writer, she is getting better. And no one will want to put this one down until it is over. It will make you itch to resolve all the dangling pieces. She does that deftly.

Summary: Well Worth the Time
Review: Quiet Time is a real page turner. Kane has written a fascinating tale with strong texture and sympathetic and involving characters. I stayed up until I finished it, quickly becoming unable to put it down. I emphatically recommend Quiet Time as one of the rare mass market novels with depth and interesting characters who are developed well enough to fully involve the reader. The book is a murder mystery on its face, but much more than that. Reading this one was a truly satisfying experience.
