Rating: Summary: Sherlock Holmes The Adventure of The Three Dragons Review: Not your typical Sherlock Holmes mystery, but rather, an excellent suspense filled book from a first time author. The descriptions used painted a perfect picture. I could feel the dampness in the sewers of Paris and could hear the softness of Miss Cantaville's voice. The writer made me feel like I was actually there with Holmes and Watson doing my part to solve this latest mystery. I commend the author for venturing outside the box and bringing us a whole new side of Holmes and Watson that we've not seen before. I certainly hope Mr. Fullenkamp has another book to follow this one. This is one reader who wants to read more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Great First Book!! Review: Often when someone attempts to write a story using an established literary character, there is a danger of not capturing the original author's believability. However, in this story, Mr Fullenkamp does a marvelous job of recreating the characters of Holmes and Watson. The story is very exciting along with being a fun read. I look forward to the next book from this new author.
Rating: Summary: Three Dragons.......... Holmes and Watson at their best! Review: Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Three Dragons is a non-stop mystery thriller with many twists and turns, but at the same time, doesn't confuse the reader. The authors unique writing style makes for a truly enjoyable book. He blends tradgedy, humor, and romance in a fashion that I've never quite seen before. Personally I couldn't put the book down! It was much, much more than I had expected. If the authors first book is indicative of his potential as a writer. We can only hope that we see more from L S Fullenkamp in the future Three Dragons packs a real punch for any and all mystery enthusiasts and is definitly a "must read"!
Rating: Summary: sherlock holmes and the adventure of the three dragons Review: Sherlock Holmes like you have never read before! This is a fascinating book with many plot twists and a very clever scenario. I compliment the author for making Holmes more personable and less professional than I have seen before. Anyone who is into Sherlock Holmes will love this book, its twists, and a different way of viewing Holmes!
Rating: Summary: Sherlock Holmes--a new beginning Review: Sure, you've read a Sherlock Holmes book or story, or seen a movie, or watched it on TV. And sure, it can be fun. But after a while it's just the same old, same old--right? Wrong! My name is Luke Steven Fullenkamp and I wrote Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Three Dragons. The first of three books in the trilogy, this Holmes story takes him and Watson to places most people would never have dreamed. And I would ask that all Sherlock Holmes purests please keep an open mind. Holmes and Watson may be a bit more developed and expanded, but they're still Holmes and Watson. Read it and see what I mean. Yes, it's mystery, adventure and romance, but it also addresses a modern day danger that threatens us all. See if you can determine what it is. You may have read Sherlock Holmes before, but you've never read anything like this. There is the story and the stories within the story. And yet there is a simplicity that makes the reading easy. Is London in danger? Yes. Is the Queen in peril? Yes. Is every man, woman and child in the city in harm's way? Yes. Can Holmes and Watson pevent all from being lost? We hope so. Not if the dragon master has his way. Ancient, wonderful and frightening sciences are rediscovered. Who is the lovely, mysterious woman and what is her relationship to the dragon master? Who is Guardian and why is he looking for Sherlock Holmes? You may have read, or seen, or heard Holmes and Watson before... ...but never like this.
Rating: Summary: This is not the Holmes and Watson you know and love... Review: The plot of this book is unbelieveable (reads like a "Fu Manchu" story), Holmes and Watson are so out of character (they sound like Americans, do not use proper etiquette, and act more like they are in a spy novel rather than a mystery), and the story is overly wordy. More research into the time period, a thorough read of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, along with a good editor, might have helped.
Rating: Summary: An excellent first book Review: The suspense coupled with vivid descriptions thoughout this novel make it difficult to put down once you begin reading. The characters emerge with real personalities and not as mere players in a drama. This is an excellent beginning of a writing career which will hopefully continue.
Rating: Summary: Nice try but. . . Review: This book is full of problems. I hate to bash an aspiring author, especially one who obviously admires Sherlock Holmes, but Fullenkamp's pastiche deserves some criticism. It was amazing to learn that Dr. Watson's name was Johnathan and that the structure at 221 Baker Street was not laid out anything like Conan Doyle described it. Fullenkamp also has the building with "upper rooms inhabited by Mrs. Hudson and a few of the other tenants." The conversations have an American character and do not sound like 1880s England. Fullenkamp has Holmes and Watson doing things completely out of place and character, such as rushing into a room with pistols drawn and then rolling on the floor into firing positions. Watson has named his pistol "Mildred." There just are too many elements of James Bond and Bruce Lee and not enough of the Holmes and Watson of the Canon. Perhaps I expected too much of a book the author paid to have published.--"Samson"
Rating: Summary: Pleasant Victorian sci-fi, not for Holmes purists... Review: This was a fun read, and the author has a strong descriptive style and energetic pacing which transports you (along with Holmes and Watson) to various Victorian locales including the Paris sewers and a Mary-Poppin-like flight through London's night skies... and the villain and plotline are imaginative. But too many liberties (see other reviews) are taken with the Holmes/Watson relationship, dialogue, and personalities to satisfy the real Conan Doyle fan. If you can forgive these, it's a pleasant way to spend a plane flight - and I've always been partial to Victorian science fiction gadgets, which abound here.
