Rating: Summary: The author certainly knows what he likes... Review: ...and that is women placed in powerful situations. The female lead in this novel is very similar to the Dark Lady in his first work Darkness Bound. The book is a good read and will keep you guessing. The ending is a little too "neat" for my taste. I look forward to more from Mr Brooks.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Review: A great story written extremely well. I found myself unable to put it down. Each chapter ends with suspense which forces you to go on. I read in only days. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: I Got the Point Review: An invitation from the author prompted me to read "Pressure Points." I was glad I did. Author Brooks' writing style is reminiscent of James A. Michener, "Alaska", in that his story is heavy in narrative, rather than dialogue. Which means that Brook's scenes are well described; his characters carefully crafted. We know who the characters are, why they are, and where they are. Blend in some Carl Hiaasen, "Basket Case" or Nelson DeMille "Up Country" dry humor and some Jeffery Deaver, "The Stone Monkey" thrills and you have a Larry Brooks chiller. In fact I read a review, and now don't recall where, that likened his style to that of Alfred Hitchcock, master of the macabre. I somewhat agree, in that Hitchcock's tales were spellbinding. I see some of those tendencies in Larry Brooks. Perhaps he will work at developing that talent and give us even more spell and macabre in his next book. Yet I don't want to compare Larry Brooks to any of the above mention writers. I think his writing stands alone. Is there more coming, Larry? Primarily set in the Emerald City (Seattle, Washington). J. A. Jance, Ridley Pearson, and Susan Sloan have all found Seattle to be a grand story setting. Brooks has done a fantastic job of bringing this rich setting to life. I thought his Seattle based Wright and Wong Agency a particularly cute play on word. For a synopsis of the story, see above and below. Read Wayne C. Rogers excellent review and save me some time by not having to rehash what he said so well. I enjoyed reading "Pressure Points" and I look forward to reading "Darkness Bound." Cammy Diaz
Rating: Summary: This one will keep you guessing, full of twists, surprises! Review: Author Larry Brooks, a former business executive himself, turns the world of corporate seminars and training exercises into the stuff of mystery, intrigue, murder and heart-stopping suspense..impossible to put down. At the heart of this book is The Seminar, a grueling course designed to force execs to face their deepest fears and come to grips with life and death situations. I thought I had some idea where this one was going but was surprised (and then delighted) to find my expectations turned upside down, again and again. Anyone who reads this one will be hard-pressed to figure out where The Seminar ends and reality begins and who is pulling the strings all along. Not just another copycat novel, but a truly original book which is a must-read! And if you're in the movie business, this one is a no-brainer for a great movie!

Rating: Summary: Larry Brooks has done it again Review: I absolutely loved this book. The characters were both loveable and loathsome. It gripped me from the first page and I could not stop reading it. It was a great read and the best book I have read this year.
Rating: Summary: Edge-of-Your-Seat Thriller! Review: I bought this book out of a need to read something while relaxing on the beach during a short vacation in Florida. I struck gold! I had a very difficult time putting the book down! Mr. Brooks has done an excellent job of developing his characters and a very believeable plot. I do a lot of reading, but I have never had a book keep me on the edge as much as this one did. You won't be disappointed with this book if you enjoy a nail-biting, page-turning, keep-you-guessing thriller!
Rating: Summary: a compelling thriller with lots of surprises Review: I enjoyed this thriller about executives at a week-long seminar in a secluded West coast setting. Though there was quite a bit of corporate/business jargon that went right past me, the author did a good job of establishing an interesting set of characters -- some in depth and some kept mysterious until later in the story -- and setting an atmosphere filled with tension. Three executives at a Seattle ad agency are attempting to buy out their boss's interest in the company, and he tells them he will do so IF they all complete a seminar that he regards highly. Right away you wonder if the seminar is legitimate, what the boss has planned, etc. As the seminar progresses you, like the participants, begin to wonder what is real and what is staged, and who you can trust and who you can't. The writing and plotting are very well done and I, like other reviewers, stayed up late so I could finish it -- which is the mark of a successful thriller, right? I thought the ending was somewhat less than satisfying, but certainly exciting. I would recommend this book to a friend who enjoys thrillers, especially if they're an MBA.
