Rating: Summary: Not as Good as other! Review: This book isn't as good as the other books from Frey. A good read but not great. I was beginning to put him in the class of Patterson -- but not yet. I hope the next book is better!
Rating: Summary: Slow and a lot of Problems Review: This book was much Slower than Frey's other books. My major problem with this book was that it was Frey's only book that was in the First Person. The writing just didn't seem right, his third person books are all much better. BTW Frey needs to do a little bit better of a job doing research, When they go to the Baseball game the team plays the "California Angels" the team hasn't been California for some time now, second the home team is always in the third base side, not the first base side. It is stuff like that that makes this book off.
Rating: Summary: Get the facts straight! Review: This good vacation read, ie no-brainer, suffers from the rediculous way the story unfolds. It also suffers because anyone who knows anything about the market has to wonder why this author doesn't. He is allegedly in the business - yet his main character signs up at a Daytrade firm and makes one trade in two weeks. His understanding of terms like lock-up period is also less than anyone who has passed a Series 7 (brokers test)Serious flaws and stupid characters detract, although the action is fast paced in ths almost funny story.
Rating: Summary: Written for a 5 year old Review: This is one of the worst "suspense" type books I have read. Everything is telegraphed way ahead, and it is feels like it is written (minor titilation aside) by a 15 year old for a 5 year old. Certainly, the reading skills of a 5 year old will get you thru this book. Authors such as David Martin, David Lindsey, Michael Connelley, Jonathan Kellerman are MUCH MUCH better. It gets 1 star for its interesting weaving of day trading into the story. PS I showed it to a friend, and he disagreed with me - he felt it was written BY a 2 year old
Rating: Summary: The Day Trader Review: This was definitely the poorest of Frey's books. I was really looking forward to reading it, but was disappointed. I hope his future books have more deapth to them. The characters are really shallow and you really don't care what happens to them. Agustus, the main character, is such a weakling that you begin to feel he deserves what he gets.
Rating: Summary: Great, but a little predictable Review: This was my first time reading a Stephen Frey book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the way he leaves the reader hanging at the end of each chapter. It kept me hanging on and therefore, I felt implored to read the next chapter because I wanted to know the resolution. However, Stephen Frey doesn't give you the answer in the next chapter, he keeps you reading and provides the answer dispersed throughout the rest of the book. That is a great approach! I read this book in 2 1/2 days, and I usually hate to read, but I enjoy finance and I was a former day trader myself, so I can relate to Augustus's humdrum life. I found Agustus McKnight's ignorance about his best friend, Roger and his wife frustrating. I often yelled out loud "you idiot, Don't you get it" as if he could hear me. The ending didn't surprise me as it did other readers. I figured out who Roger was about half way through and I figured out about Augustus's wife and Vincent about the same time. Although, the muderer was a surprise to me. Great book and I'm in the process of buying more of Stephen Frey's novels.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Intriguing Review: Was surprised to read some of the other reviews since I thought this was one of the best suspense novels I've enjoyed (audiobook) in a long time. Perhaps it was the tone of the narrator's (William Dufris) voice? Couldn't understand why book included info about protagonist's father in the beginning, but I like the way the author pulled it all together. One thing I didn't quite get was why August wasn't wary of Reggie, the police detective. Seems that he would have wanted a lawyer before he answered any of Reggie's questions. Another question was why did Melonie marry August since she obviously was never faithful to him.

Rating: Summary: Expected MUCH more Review: Well...here goes. I have done some serious daytrading...so I expected substantially more to this book, especially upon reading that Frey is "the Grisham of finance" or words to that effect. This was my first read by Stephen Frey...so I cannot say much about any style changes or anything like that...and cannot compare any of his works to this book. I suspect that this was one of his weaker efforts so will "give him another chance" and try one of his other books that has a more positive feedback here on Amazon. If you are considering this book as a first-read from this author, I would stay away from this one and try another. I felt that the characters were much too stereotypical and extreme. I know a lot of daytraders and quite a bit about how they think. While emotions can run high (yes...recall the daytrader rage incident a couple of years ago) generally, the good ones are very calm individuals who rely on technical analysis of charts and not on hot tips procured in bars. Two things prevented me from giving this book a 1 or 2 star rating: it actually is a decent story, and it inspired me to write a book of my own...we'll see.
Rating: Summary: Blahh!!! Review: What a disappointment! The characters were sooo shallow and it just seemed that the words were put on the paper to fill up space. After previous great books, this was a real disappointment.
