Rating: Summary: Lock and Load on the seat of your pants fun Review: I hate books that just drag on with techno babble. Hunt for Red October did that. But QUICKSILVER didn't. It mixed a little of techno bable, with a little of interesting history lessons, and a good amount of characters. This was a great book. I truly cared for the main chracaters and i really feel like i got my moneys worth. When you have a book you can;t put down, you know its great book. And this book was great. Buy it right away.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as Icefire Review: I read Icefire and thought it was a great book filled, with action and likeable characters. I looked forward to Quicksilver and if I hadn't of read Icefire I would have given up on it. The first 200 pages could have easily been shortened to 50 or so. I also didn't like the wimpy peace-loving male character. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind, at first in this novel, the strong female characters, but it got a little much how they both thought of him (Tom Chase) as "thick" and a "nuisance". It almost sounded like the husband and wife writing team were communicating their frustrations about the other through the novel. The story, after the first 200 pages is however filled with action and will keep you reading. I will wait for reviews before reading another of Reeves-Stevens novels.

Rating: Summary: quicksilver;when the pentagon is held hostage Review: I really liked this book for many reasons. It has a good plot, full of twists and turns. The action is fast, I read the book very quickly. The author keeps you guessing, your not sure who is going to make it to the end alive. The best way to describe the book is its like the DIe Hard movies. This time though the hero is a girl. I had trouble with the way she handled herself with the terrorists. She was just too good. Bruce Willis maybe, but a twenty something girl, I don't think so. But what the heck, its different. Lots of futuristic hardware and good badguys, throw in unpredictability and you have a good fast read. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Started as 5 stars but ended as a 2 Review: I'm an avid reader of all technothrillers. Throughout the years I'veread Clancy, Brown, Sagan, Bond, Coonts, Huston among others. Thiswas my first novel I read by the Reeves-Stevens and I saw a lot of potential particularly with their knowledge and detail they write about the Pentagon. Similar to Patrick Robinson where the first pages actually serve as reference material to their story, not only is it entertaining but also educational. But of course there's a down side to my review. 1. What's up with the bickering that went on between ex-husband and wife, Major Sinclair and Tom Chase? Especially during a time of crisis like the elimination of their own existence? That was just too much! It became very old and a turn off really fast. Bottom line: stupid. 2. The many attempts to kill Erich and how he disappeared and reappeared from the scenes seemed like it was rushed to finish the book. 3. I sensed that the depiction of tough capable military females such as Major Sinclair and Midshipman Bethune was a bit overdone throughout the book. Don't get me wrong, I respect and admire capable beings of both genders. But it was overemphasized ....So it started as a five star but I give it two stars not because the overall story, plot, and momentum was good, but the characters became downright irritating.
Rating: Summary: "Die Hard" at the Pentagon Review: I'm only halfway throught this book and it's absolutly the MOST exciting, action packed book I've ever read, and I've read thousands! I loved their first book, "Icefire", and knew this pair of authors had what it took. But I was totally surprised that Quicksilver could even top their first book, times 2. I'm takeing the day off work to continue reading...it's that good! Lori Howe

Rating: Summary: A real page-turner Review: Intrigued by the jacket copy, I picked this book up and couldn't put it down. While Clancy has gotten a little too technical for me lately, I loved the techno in this book, the continuous plot twists and all too plausible scenario. Scary. In fact, immediately after I finished Quicksilver I ran out to catch up with the Reeves-Stevens "Icefire". Get this! A great summer read.
Rating: Summary: Good techno-thriller with some serious flaws Review: Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens are probably the best Trek authors out there, and I wanted to see what they were capable of away from the Star Trek universe. Well, they are capable of excellent action scenes, strong suspense, decent character-building and adding tons of research to their novel without overwhelming the narrative thrust. Quicksilver is indeed a kind of Die Hard in the Pentagon, except that it has far more heroic characters struggling to overcome a vicious invading force which holds the country to ransom on the day Russia would be inducted into NATO. The action leads are female, while the male lead is an active pacifist and far more in touch with his emotions than his co-stars - an interesting role reversal and one I had no problems with. Though 700 pages long (and yes, after a cracking opening the book does slow down somewhat before taking off again), the story retains the interest of the reader, and it's impossible to read this without thinking of how this would be adapted into a movie blockbuster. Although for a Hollywood version, I would think there would need to be a clearer 'hero' character to carry the entire plot - here, it's more of a group effort. So, a lot which is good. Why then only three stars? Three reasons (SPOILER WARNING!!) - - - - - 1) the presence of an insufferable 'cute' kid, who just happens to be spoiled rotten, invincible thanks to his 'karate throw' (?) and totally unrealistic. When he first showed up I almost stopped reading on. Luckily he is not thrust into the spotlight too much (it's not Home Alone in the Pentagon) but the novel would have been better without him. 2) The resolution of the romance subplots makes no sense after what has been built up throughout 690+ pages. 3) The villain's motivations ans characterization. Being European, I can assure you that this is not how people feel towards America (neither as civilians nor as military personnel). It's as if old communist villain's characteristics had been surgically grafted on a new 'potential danger' which frankly doesn't even exist. Maybe the American military do consider the possibility of their allies turning against them someday, but it would take a very serious change in geopolitical realities for this to happen. So to me the villain was a cardboard cutout and the master plan deficient. Unfortunate in a thriller... Let me finish by stating that while the writing is good and fluent, the authors' trick of ending a chapter on a cliffhanger indicating the demise of a main character only to pull them back from the brink of death in their next appearance works extremely well the first time, but becomes too predictable after that, so that the desired shock effect is lost after a while. Overall : good but not great, though it could have been.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: One of the best books I have ever read. Couldn't put it down until it was finished. And loved every minute of it.
