Summary: scary medical thriller
Review: After enjoying last year's THE CENTER, I snatched up Shobin's latest the other day. The back blurb says he's a practicing physician -- and let me tell you, I wouldn't want to be one of his patients! But Stephen King and Mary Higgins Clark were right on about Shobin. God, can this guy write. Despite the glut of medical thriller writers these days, Shobin is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.

Summary: Wonderful start with a big disapointment.
Review: Everything was going well enough not to leave the book before reading at least for an hour each time I started reading, until the page 219. At that page Dr Langford pronounced word "copnopsin" which was supposed to be the answer for the meaning of the term "cog" that they were searching for with Jordan. At that page I started rereading the last 30-40 pages to be sure if I missed something but couldn't find the word "cognopsin". Anyway I continued reading it till page 226 where Jordan and Dr. Langford discovered what "cog." stand for. Yes it was "cognopsin". I lost all my apetite to continue reading this very promising book. What a waste.

Summary: GRABS YOU FROM THE START! Messy, ... & realistic Thriller!
Review: Gee Whiz!! I didn't think I would survive until the end, this was so good! I really enjoyed this story line, the characters were pretty well developed, and the possibilities for the comatose patient use is very startling. I LOVED IT!!

Summary: A very intense, exciting read. Interesting pot.
Review: I enjoyed this book very much even though it was a little reminicent of "COMA". However, I found a error that was somewhat disturbing. I'm referring to page 219, when Todd Langford says to Jordan, "If the bump on your head caused elevated levels of cognopsin, and it's no wonder......" At this I thought Langford was part of the conspiracy. Then on page 226 when Todd and Jordan discover Dr. Fine's disc in the pharmacy and Langford says " Cognopsin, huh? Fletch, you old hound. For a guy........I guess we don't have to wonder what Cog means anymore." I still thought Langford might "be in on it" at that point. You're probably thinking "Sheeze, lady, it's just a novel , a fiction novel!" But it can somehow throw the whole thing off when one finds a tacticle error such as this one. Please let me know if I've misread it or misunderstood it. Thank you.

Summary: Suspense!
Review: This book is a real page turner. It was my first Shobin novel and I kept comparing him to Robin Cook. I must say his characters are much more believable than Cook's. Above all the woman protagonist, because this is where Cook almost infallibly fails. I appreciated, too, that Shobin did not elaborate too much in scientific explanations. This would have killed the tension. I will certainly read all the other novels by David Shobin.

Summary: A Master of Medical Mystery
Review: This is the first of David Shobin's books that I've read. I have been a fan of Micheal Palmer - mover over Michael. David weaves an erie tale of bizarre medical research and a quest to find the answer. It is one of those books that truly grabs you from the beginning and DOESN'T LET GO. This is the kind of book that I need to hold my attention.

Congrats David. I shall read you again.

Summary: Terminally boring
Review: When I read the back of the book I thought it would have been a real medical thriller. I found it rather bland. It took a while to get into it. The idea behind the book reminded me of a Robin Cook book I read. The story did pickup and there was a lot of suspense but the end was a real disappointment.
