Summary: All About Friendship
Review: Danielle Steele is a master artist at slowly piecing a book together, such as one of her better novels, The Cottage. This book consists of amazing characters that are split from the lives they once knew, and later are puzzled back together for a friendly meeting. Each main character, Jimmy, Mark, and Coop, are so different in their personalities but yet so much alike in their experiences. They cry, laugh, and just simply have fun when they are finally together. These three men share many similar situations throughout the novel and in the end, they all meet and talk about those certain happenings in each of their lives. How woman have left, cheated, and even passed away but they dealt with it and moved on. Luckily, they all found each other in their differences and similarities to be best friends. The capturing way Steele writes activates your emotions and slams your reality-way of thinking. She has a "happily-ever-after" touch to her writing and it takes your breathe away. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this selection and would reccomend it to anyone! Danielle Steele is truly a romantic genius.

Summary: Not All Bad
Review: I began reading this book and felt like I was walking in quicksand. Next, I felt like I was going round and round in circles. I said "I've been here before". DS kept telling the same thing over and over about the characters and each of the different life styles.

I would have rated the book a 3 but the story got better after "the accident" which takes place about midway the book. I started enjoying the book at that point. The main character,Cooper Winslow, leaves a lot to be desired by most women.Cooper has one relationship after another with women young enough to be his granddaughters. His relationship doesn't last very long with any of them. Cooper refuses to acknowledge that he is not a young man any longer. He will not take movie roles that don't portray him a leading man. Cooper doesn't realize he should be playing the roles of a father or a grandfather.

Cooper's poor management of money and his vanity threatens his financial future. His self-centered,egotistical,selfish personality made me gag. It took two special mature women in his life to turn him around.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I had not read Danielle Steel in several years. I found The Cottage to be shallow, implausible, and completely predictable. I was very disappointed with this work.

Summary: Pretty darn good book
Review: I have read virtually every Danielle Steel book out there. In fact, for many years, the minute I saw the book on the shelf, I was a bit lighter in my pocket for having bought it. I've been really disappointed in much of her later works - feeling that they were extremely repetitive and worn out plots. The Cottage is the best of the latter works I have read. I enjoyed the characters, though I would have liked to see more of the interaction between Alex and Jimmy, as well as Mark and Taryn. Overall, a light, enjoyable read.

Summary: Could Have Definitely Been Better
Review: The Cottage is about several peoples lives with the main focus of the book being Coop Winslow, as 70 year old "has been" movie star and his Cottage. When Coop is not able to make ends meat his accountant and personal assistant talk him into renting out a guest wing in his house and his gatehouse. Enter the supporting characters Mark and Jimmy. Coop meets Alex at a dinner party at a friends house. Um, did I mention she's 29 and they just hit it off wonderfully? Well, they do. This book then preceeds to roll their lives together like a bad tasting burrito.

There are a lot of inconsistencies in this book. First a doctor whose job is to save babies supports an abortion of her lovers child. She passes it off as if it's a stain on a shirt. Coop is so broke he needs to rent out parts of his Cottage, yet he takes his lovers to fancy restaurants and lavishes them with expensive clothes and trinkets. Is this possible? Coop seems to be nothing short of a jerk in denial. How can one possibly feel sorry for him.

Mark and Jimmy were spots of sunshine in this book. There stories were worth reading. They seemed to have come from the earlier Danielle Steel novels when one could really grow to like a character and be interested in their lives. Paloma added some color to the pages as the eccentric housekeeper.

This book became very predictable during the last one hundred pages. I had figured out the ending and all of the twists and turns in the relationship well before the last page. This book seemed to have somewhat of a good plot but just didn't have the ingredient to hold it all together. It was a very light read that was hard to get into at times. Could have definitely been better.

Summary: The Cottage
Review: This is one of Danielle Steel's best books. It is about Cooper Winslow, a fading movie actor and lady's man who is in financial trouble. She develops the character of "Coop" well so it is easy to visualize him.

Coop decides to rent out his "cottage" guest wings for $10,000 a month to two different tenants. The story centers around his new tenants, their romances, activities and children. In the end, Coop learns valuable lessons about sacrifice, giving to others and true love.

A interesting story with a good message!
