Rating: Summary: Not a spare minute to breathe! Review: Both 'leads'- Kier and Jessie are strong. Some very witty and challenging dialogue. Story is a page-turner. Not a dull moment. The Tilok proverbs are great at the beginning of each chapter. The author made these up himself. A wonderful read. 3 thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: A Star is Born Review: From the opening paragraph of Necessary Evil it is obvious that David Dun can write beautiful prose. He also knows how to create an almost relentless suspense, while at the same time personifying corporate greed and concern for our fragile environment in the characters of Tillman and Kier. Throw in a most welcome romantic subplot, understandable descriptions of gene theory and cloning, a real feeling for Native American culture, and you end up with a book you can't put down. I can't remember when I've read a thriller that was so gratifying on so many levels. My only regret is that as yet there aren't any other David Dun books that I can run out and buy right now, but that will change. Bravo and encore!
Rating: Summary: Nice Cover, Good Book Review: I admit I bought this book because of the cover. But as far as action thrillers go, David Dun's first, NECESSARY EVIL, does not disappoint.I couldn't go all the way and give it the full five stars. There's not a whole lot that separates this book and makes it more remarkable than any other thriller out there, but the story is well thought out and you get what you are looking for. There's conspiracy and intrigue, good bits of violence in the form of a hunt of sorts. A lot of emphasis is placed on the continually growing sexual tension between Jessie, the female FBI agent on leave, and Kier, the Native American veterinarian and mountain man. Perhaps a little too much emphasis--Dun creates situations where Jessie and Kier need to get naked in the interest of eluding their pursuers. Due to the circumstances, not a total stretch, but close to it. Kier is a fascinating character, and Dun finds opportunity to interject some insight into Native American culture and tradition that keeps things interesting. There are twists of the mystical and spiritual nature, but thankfully Dun doesn't resort to some supernatural gimmicks that would cheapen the story. Good drama and suspense, and some of the hiking and chase scenes in the snowbound mountains and caves of northern California are nothing short of breathtaking. A strong effort by Dun.
Rating: Summary: Action packed and interesting Review: I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a thriller fan. This book had all the qualities I look for in a suspense thriller. Wonderful vivid characters, interesting story lines, and filled with a page-turning plot line. It's sure to be a hit with fans of the suspense genre. Even though I feel near the end of the book was a little scattered, it still keep my attention because the characters were so intense. If you like books that give character backgrounds without slowing down the pace, Necessary Evil fits the bill.
Rating: Summary: Don¿t miss this book Review: I'm a hooked thriller reader and like Clancy, Crichton, Grisham etc. This is a little different but really good. It has a romantic angle. Kier is a great character, a big athletic Indian guy who teaches survival to Native teenagers. He's also a veterinary doctor. Jessie Mayfield is a funny hardbitten FBI Agent who is typical New York. Tillman is a corporate type who is into genetic research for profit and scientifically is way ahead of the rest of the world. When Tillman's jet full of secrets of corporate illegality crashes in Kier's wilderness the fun starts. Jessie is conveniently visiting her sister's wilderness ranch and is thrown into the fray. The cultural interplay between Kier and Jessie is great. The chase scenes are very well done and the story of survival in the dead of winter is equally compelling. For action readers this is one of the better new entries to the field.
Rating: Summary: Well Dun! Review: No inclination to page-skip in this action packed thriller. By the time I finished the first chapter I had unknowingly commited the next 3-hours. The right blend of character complexity and compelling story line. Put this book on your MUST READ list - near the top!
Rating: Summary: NECESSARY READING FOR ADVENTURE LOVERS Review: Start to finish you will not want to put this down. You better beleive it. Its part survival story, part chase, part romance and part medical thriller. But it all works really well. Kier is a Tilok Native American veterinary doctor who mixes mordern medicine and more traditional remedies and as a result is very popular in the local community. Basically a peaceful guy who is forced to turn to violence in order to deal with a character called Tillman. Everyone chases everbody through the woods, but this chase is not boring at all. Conveniently Tillman is a world class hunter. Once the action starts the book becomes a real page turner. Most readers will be captivated by the story. This is one read that is good at anytime. TRIPP
Rating: Summary: One of the best... Review: This book is one of the best new action thillers available. It holds your interest throughout the story with good character development and interesting plot twists. Unlike any other, it weaves modern technology in and through Native American culture, while simultaneously offering the stark contrast between the two. Prepare for a very late night, because you won't want to put it down!

I couldn't wait to finish it and when I did get to the end, I found myself in disbelief as to what the charachters were faced with. One of the best endings to a book that I've read in a long time. Highly recomended, you won't be sorry you bought this book.
