Rating: Summary: fascinating police procedural Review: After mishandling a case in Kansas City, Frank Bennett was fired from the department. He took a job as the chief of Police in the small town of Trout Run, located in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. At first he thought it would be a quiet job but when he got a homicide case, he realized that he could be very happy living and working in an area where everybody knows everybody else.Mary Pat Sheehan was a friendly twenty-eighth year old woman who lived with her parents and never dated. When she was discovered dead behind the wheel of her car, nobody, including her parents, knew that she was pregnant or that she died from complications stemming from the delivery. Frank discovers that Mary Pat gave birth to a healthy girl and handed her over to a shady adoption ring. The radical environmental group Green Tomorrow, whose leader was murdered while staying in Trout Run, and various residents who feel they were played as fools by this group are ready to brawl and Frank has all he can handle to keep the peace. S.W. Hubbard is a genius at creating all types of characters, who touch the heart of reader. The audience will root for them to get their heart's desire and understand their pain. The two sub-plots intersect in a surprising twist but readers will not find out who killed the environmental leader or where Mary Pat's child is until the author chooses to reveal the answers. SWALLOW THE HOOK is a fascinating police procedural. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: I am hooked on Frank Bennett Review: Another successful mystery from SW Hubbard. Hubbard manages to lead you in one direction for clues to the mystery but then starts tugging you into other possiblities for suspects. I like the town, the people and the banter between Frank and his deputy. I would love to "meet" his daughter in another mystery book. Looking forward to other publications

Rating: Summary: Black Market Adoption and Murder Review: Frank Bennett is Chief of Police in Trout Run, Arkansas. He mishandled a case in Kansas. He took this job thinking it would be a quiet job. His wife is no longer alive and he's not as close to his married daughter. Now he has another murder on his hands to investigate.
Mary Pat Sheehan, 28, lived with her parents and didn't date. She is found dead in her car parked on the side of the road. Everyone is shocked when they find out she was had been pregnant and died from complications from giving birth. As Frank investigates, he comes across information into black market adoption scams. Apparently she gave her baby girl to a shady adoption agency. No one knows where the baby is now. Frank is determined to find that out and make sure she is safe. Plus he wants to prevent other girls from being taken in by these people and having their lives and the lives of their babies put into danger.
Frank finds that sometimes it is an advantage to live in a town where everyone knows everyone else and sometimes it isn't.
The leader of Green Tomorrow, a radical environmental group, is murdered while in town. Many women of the community are members of this group and cause some problems with their protests. Frank begins to look into why this group has decided to try to close down Raging Rapids. It's not a large attraction. How did they even hear about it?
Frank Bennett is a terrific character. I like the way he handles cases. Trout Run is a place I'd want to visit. Her descriptions are so well written that I feel that I've been there with each book in this series. I like how she intertwined the two story lines as well. Very well done. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: I loved it!!!! Review: I just finished reading Swallow the Hook and I loved it!!!!!!! I liked even more than Take the Bait and I really liked that a lot!!!!!! It's really strange, but it took on a special significance. As an adoptee, we don't always think of what couples are willing to go through when they want a child more than anything and how these kinds of people prey on people like this. I am beginning to fall in love with Frank Bennett!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the great reading. Carmen

Rating: Summary: Hooked on Trout Run Review: SWALLOW THE HOOK, SW Hubbard's second Trout Run mystery starring police chief Frank Bennett, is no sophomore slump effort! As Frank Bennett grows more comfortable in his small Adirondacks beat, his relationships with local folk grow increasingly funny and real. The story is absorbing and the village of Trout Run with its surrounding wilderness comes alive through Hubbard's words. Highly recommended!
