Rating: Summary: Fun mystery! Review: C.M. Miller has written a good old fashioned fast paced mystery that is begging to be a movie. When janitor Ed Dixon is accused of murder he calls his financial advisor Audrey Wilson. He calls her because he has no friends and no family to speak of, except his estranged wife and she hasn't answered one of his letters in all the years he had written to her. When one of the young female teachers is killed in an upscale teaching academy Ed Dixon is caught literally with his pants down. Popular teacher Jackie Daniels is dead and all eyes are on Ed as the number one suspect. Everyone seems to have only kind words for Jackie, 'she was a fine young teacher. . .responsive to her students . . . admired by her peers.' No one has kind words for the janitor though. Students made a play on his last name after they found out that Ed had been reprimanded for sexually harassing the young teacher. The head master calls Ed a society cast-off. Jackie's father A.J. Daniel is determined that Ed Dixon goes to jail and will do anything in his power as her dad and as the city's wealthy, influential district attorney to see that this happens. But was Jackie Daniels the paragon of virtue she appeared to be? Why was she so brutally murdered? With the help of her new attorney friend Audrey is able to secure legal counsel for Ed, so they can find out the truth and to make sure that Ed gets his day in court. To her surprise Audrey finds herself attracted to this new friend. Now she has two mysteries on her hands, who really killed Jackie Daniels and why she is so drawn to a man who is not her type nor her color. Taxes, Death & Trouble is a tightly woven murder mystery of the first degree. I recommend this novel and anxiously await the further adventures of Audrey Wilson who is not shown here as the solver of the crime but is central to the story. The next in the series is titled 'Accrual Way to Die.' The witty play on words bespeaks Ms. Millers accounting background. Vannie(~.~)

Rating: Summary: OOOH, the sex is naughty, but the good story holds you Review: I loved this book about a black financial advisor who wants to help the common man. When Audrey Wilson's main client is accused of murder, she tries to find him legal help. That's where the story starts but there are other interwoven story lines and rich characters in Taxes, Death & Trouble. For a fast, fun read, check this one out!
Rating: Summary: Taxes death and trouble Review: I loved this book! It's part love story, part mystery, and total enjoyment. Audrey is a likeable, classy, home-girl that's trying to make a go of a financial services business after the end of dull marriage to a stuck-up husband, Emory Kimborough. Just as things start to pick up a bit with her business, her main client Ed Dixon is accused of killing a teacher at the snooty school where he works as a janitor. He asks Audrey to find him a lawyer. She does in Jules Dreyfus who just moved into the office building where she's struggling to pay rent. While they try to get Ed freed and find the real killer, Audrey and Jules begin to fall in love. The love scenes are sizzling and the interrelationships ring true. Can't wait to see where the story goes in the next book.
Rating: Summary: Colorful cast of characters Review: I loved this book. What a diverse cast of characters with strong undertones of social commentary. Good read!
Rating: Summary: LOVED THIS BOOK; NEED INFO ON NEXT INSTALLMENT! Review: I read this book in one evening and the only disappointing thing was that I have to wait for the next installment! I loved all the characters (Audrey, Jules, Ed) and the villians were scary and interesting and everything BUT ordinary! As far as the sex and language, that's real life! The murder was directly attached to sex, morals, ethics, etc. The crime was not only against a human being but against how a MORAL human beings should live their lives! I can't wait for the next 2 installments. My only problem now is finding out just WHEN that would be. Is there a mailing list, etc? Bravo, Ms. Miller!
Rating: Summary: OOOH, the sex is naughty, but the good story holds you Review: I thought the characters were well developed and the different story plots were intriguing! I loved the relationships between Audrey and her sister and the cautious love relationship of Audrey and Jules. The story takes place in the sleepy, African American town of Rosemont, Ohio. Young teacher, Jackie Daniels, whose life and death is Roshamonesque in that you don't know if she's a goody or a baddy. But whatever she is, she ends up dead. The Academy janitor, Ed Dixon is accused of the crime and solicits Audrey to get him out of the fix. Audrey meets Jules Dreyfus, the white lawyer and neighbor in her office building. She then plays a cat and mouse game of emotions, afraid of the sexual attraction that she has for him. The story ends in a nice cliff hanger...will they or won't they follow their hearts? Miller has a strong voice, the characterizations are vivid and the plot twists are facinating. I look forward to reading her next effort and hope that the wait won't be too long.

Rating: Summary: A Suspenseful Ride and DEBUT Novel Review: Jackie Daniels, teacher at an upscale African American academy and daughter of a prominent D.A. is murdered, and there is definitely hell to be paid. Ed Dixon, a janitor at the academy, is prime suspect having been spotted at the scene of the crime, but he flees, going to the only person he can trust, financial planner Audrey Wilson. Audrey meets newly arrived attorney Jules Dreyfuss, who happens to be white, and pleads with him to take on Dixon's case. Instantly, there's an attraction between the two, which Audrey fights, but there's a lot more important issues at hand, like a murder in C. Maria Miller's mystery, "Taxes, Death, & Trouble."Right off the bat, the novel is nicely written and is a fast-paced read. There are several storylines to sink your teeth into, such as the mystery at hand, the "maybe" relationship between Jules and Audrey, the political and police corruption that takes place in the novel, Ed Dixon's past and how he comes to grips with it. The novel intertwines each of these storylines with ease, and I was actually interested in seeing how each character's story would pan out. One thing I thought about; however, was the fact that this is book one of three Audrey Wilson Mysteries, but I don't know what exactly Audrey Wilson had to do WITH the mystery. She's an integral character to the novel, but to the mystery, I didn't think so. Knowing of other authors who do series with a female lead (normally the detective or investigator), I assumed Audrey would be that way as well. But regardless of that, the story did pique my interest, and I look forward to reading the upcoming novels to see what transpires.
