Rating: Summary: As good as I expected! Review: I quit writing reviews a long time ago, but I have such a soft spot for Star and the gang that I couldn't resist. The series keeps getting better and better. I particularly take pleasure in Ms. Smith-Levin's ability to give each character a special distinctiveness - what a talent. The ex-wife, daughter combo was amazingly entertaining, and the other peripheral characters were given so much depth I couldn't put the book down. This time out, our whistles were whetted with a glimpse of the next entry into this deliciously entertaining series. I wouldn't dream of giving it away, but anyone familiar with the Starletta Duvall mysteries, like my friends and I, will come away with the same conclusion. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!
Rating: Summary: All That and a Bag of Chips! Review: I waited, and watched, and monitored the release date, hasseled the book store, and FINALLY got my copy. Of course, it is great! I didn not catch onto who the murder was until late, and I admit I was leaning a little toward the wife. As for the ending, Judith, I can't beleive you left me hanging like that! It was a perfect setup for the next installment. Please, Please tell me it will not be as long between books! This is torture. There was not even a hint on the cover or in the bio about the next book. Please, tell me there is one! You are doing an excellent job, please write faster! Devoted fan.

Rating: Summary: Very satisfied reader! Review: Judith Smith Levin has been consistent and true to form in the latest Starletta Duvall MYSTERY! I have gone to great time (and expense) to track down the initial books in order to bring myself up to speed with the characters. And it's been well worth the trouble! I beleive that Ms. Smith-Levin has presented a very balanced and realistic yet heart-breaking story. The balance between the frailty of human life, the desperation of those who take those lives and the tenacity of those trying to figure out the insanity of it all! Descriptions of the murder scenes give enough graphic details to grasp the severity without relying on ghoulish or gorry specifics. I feel like I have become personal friends with Star, Mitch, Dom and Vee. I miss them all each time the story ends. In fact, it makes be a little nervous about what to expect from the cliff-hanger in Reckless Eyeballin'. I received a personal email note for Ms. Smith-Levin regarding the next installment: "The Champagne Room" Let me say, I will be ready to toast to the success and enjoyment of that book as well! I can't wait!
Rating: Summary: Very satisfied reader! Review: Judith Smith-Levin does all African American female heroines proud with this book and her whole Starletta Duvall series. She brings you in not just with the mystery at hand but also with the friendships (Paresi/Vee) and romances (Mitch). The ending is a beautiful one especially for readers who have read about Starletta from the beginning. The next segment of this series is one that I can only imagine will also deliver!
Rating: Summary: Great Series Review: This book was well worth the long wait. I was really touched by the pain of Mitch. Glad to Vee and Paresi moving forward. Star and Mitch are an excellent match. I am just sitting on pins and needles waiting to see Star totally slam dunk Carole Ann & Robin. I couldn't figure out the murderer--that kept me going! The ending threw me for a real loop. I am now hanging on the suspense of the ending, waiting for the next book--unfair!! Now that I have finished this book I can get some rest & other things accomplished until the next Star is on the horizon.
Rating: Summary: Engrossing Review: This was my first Starletta Duvall mystery. I was immediately caught up in the suspense. However I got the definite sense that you had to read the other installments first to have a good understanding of the characters. I will go back to read the previous books so that I can understand how Star and Mitch initially got together. The suspense was great. I did not detect the true villain until it was too late. This is definitely worth your time. I listened to the griot audio version.
Rating: Summary: Murder in the ranks of the Rich and Famous Review: With this one Judith proves again why those of us who have discovered her remain loyal and eagerly await for her next release. As usual she does not disappoint. Murder is always sinister but throw power, prestige, money and passion into the ring and things really get ugly. In this one we not only get a riveting murder mystery but she takes a very real look at human nature when everything is at risk. At the beginning of the story there are two very different and brutal murders, Star and Paresi have their hands full trying to solve them. To complicate matters one of the victims is a longtime friend of Mitchell Grant's, and he's grieving and trying to help find her killer. Add to the mix that Mitch's ex-wife has decided she doesn't approve of his new love interest. Once you pick this one up you will not be able to put it down, so clear your calendar and wait until the kids are in bed.
