Summary: Not everyone loves this book!
Review: I did not like this book. I feel it was too
closely related to "The Firm" in plot points and too wordy
in its content. The characters were caricatures. I work in a hospital
and seldom see people like these. The characters needed to be fleshed
out a bit more and less predictable. Not bad for a quick escapist
read, but don't expect to be holding your breath for a sequel.

Summary: A pleasant surprise!
Review:

After finishing David Mucci's debut novel, CARDIAC CARTEL, I couldn't help but be reminded of the plot line in John Grisham's THE FIRM. In this case, however, it's not a young, ambitious attorney who gets in over his head....it's a young, ambitious cardiac surgeon who gets thrown to the sharks.

Dr. Peter Pavano doesn't even get a chance to catch his breath and enjoy the perks of being a 'fellow' in a prestigious angioplasty program before his life unravels before his eyes.

He's set up for a fall, but Pavano is man with more lives than an alley cat. He's smart and he remains alive by staying one step ahead of the really, really bad guys.

I don't read many self-published books because I find the quality lacking. This is an exception and I recommend it to anyone who likes a thriller. You don't necessarily have to like medical thrillers to enjoy this roller coaster ride.

Strap yourself in and set aside several hours because once you start CARDIAC CARTEL, you won't be able to put it down.

I look forward to other work from Mucci. He's got a voice and a real talent for weaving a tale. And, his bad guys are truly evil. If there's a movie version of this book, I'm sure Hollywood will cast someone like Matt Damon or Leonardo DiCaprio as Dr. Pavano, but there is no one that can play bad guy Dr. Barbosa better than Frank Langella. The part is tailor-made for his particular kind of evil eye madness.

Enjoy!

Summary: Non-stop medical thriller
Review: Dr. David Mucci has written a fast paced, character driven story here that will keep you up all night reading! This is a wonderful book and I can't recommend it highly enough. I couldn't put it down. I was captivated from the first page right up to the last. The plot was entirely believable and the action never slowed down. Even if you're not a fan of medical thrillers I'm sure you'll like this book. It has all the ingredients of greatness. This is a story that the reader will remember long after finishing the book.

Dr. Peter Pavano is a young doctor just getting started out on a bright career when he runs up against the wrong people. Or perhaps it's they who ran up against the wrong young doctor! It soon becomes apparent that the bad guys have met their match in this fellow. Dr. Pavano is forced to confront a very powerful organization set on destroying all he has worked to achieve. It's kill or be killed and the young doctor quickly decides he's not going to lose this fight. He is helped along on his quest by a great cast of supporting characters who bring such color to the story! And talk about bad guys! Not since Darth Vader has there been a more black hearted villain than Pavano's nemesis at the Connecticut General Hospital. You won't want to miss this book.

Summary: Sorry, but repeats are not for me
Review: Dr. Pavano is young and he links up with a group of surgeons who are most unscrupulous. He tries, throughout the remainder of the novel, to expose them, becoming a target not only of the group, but the police as well.

Perhaps someone should call John Grisham immediately to find out what happens next.

David Mucci write a wonderful story. However, he does need to find something that is much more original than simply rewriting famous author's works. While this book is in no way plagerism, the basic plot is (as elsewhere mentioned) taken straight from "The Firm". It's understandable that a vanity press would have allowed it to be released.

I want to make something perfectly clear. David Mucci IS a good writer. The prose and grammar were superb (albiet some editing still appears to be needed), and the weaving of the story is good. I think that should he come up with an original plot and storyline, he would have a chance. Perhaps that led to the choice of publishers.

Overall, the basic synopsis is this: If you have read "The Firm", then you need only change the venue and character vocation and you have "THe Cardiac Cartel". No sense in buying the same book twice.

Summary: Medicine from the human side
Review: I had such a great time reading this book I had to write and tell everyone. I so enjoyed Dusty. His character is heat-warming and I just wanted to reach into the book and give him a hug. He reminds you how easily we sterotype people as to what their abilities are. David Mucci does a wonderful job charecterising Dusty as a person who knows his disabilities and also knows only he can put boundries on his true abilities.

It is also an action filled tale that kept me reading into the night. I hope he has another medical thriller in the works because he is on my watch list.

Summary: Book groups review
Review: I host a monthly book review in Nassua, NH. For the month of February we read and reviewed "The Cardiac Cartel". At first the group of eleven women were uncertain if we would like this book. We tend to gravitate more towards the OPRAH type books. But one of our group insisted, (her high school daughter read it and loved it). Our overall review was that this is a very quick and fun read. You don't realize how quickly you are drawn into the story and aline with the characters, be them the protaganists or the antagaonists. The group as a whole loved the character "Dusty". The action was tight and believable, the medicine was enlightening. We actually felt we knew what a doctor thinks behind that smile. Our group recommends "The Cardiac Cartel" and we look forward to David Mucci's next book.
