Rating: 4 stars
Summary: First at bat gets a hit.
Review: For anyone who enjoys a good hard hitting detective plot loaded with refreshing current political incorrectness, give yourself a treat and a fun read at the same time.
Set in the 'City of Brotherly Love', tough skinned but true blue Detective Sergeant Joseph Scanlon picks his way through a maze of political and police corruption, mutilated dead bodies, a race riot, and personal grief trying to stop the bad guy. And this bad guy is BAD.
This auther's first book showed me such an original wit, true to life scenarios, and humorous writing style, that I found myself rereading phrases and dialogue in order to quite the disbelief of my first pass. At last, a new author who writes the way we actually think! I am personally looking forward to Mr. Herring's next work with relish.
