Rating: Summary: Great book, even for the non-"mormony" type Review: About "Tennis Shoes Among The Nephites" "Tennis Shoes Among The Nephites" is a wonderful book. It starts off talking about a kid named Jim Hawkins that is a church boy but doesn't like to go to church. But then there is the other character named Garth Plimpton. He, on the other hand, is totally opposite of Jim. Jim is just a kid with a bad attitude. What's more, is that he enjoys having a bad attitude - about everything - especially about church. But Garth Plimpton is a fanatic of church. He's spent so much time studying that scriptures and thick books that he can not carry on a normal conversation with the other kids. That's why he is considered a nerd. Through an unusual chain of events though, these two opposites become fast friends. It all began when Garth told Jim the simple truth: "They really existed once, you know." "Who?" Jim asked. "Nephites," Garth replied. "Every character in the Book of Mormon ate, slept, died, and was buried." That statement, taken for granted before, would soon echo deeply into the two boys' minds - because they were on the trail of a chilling secret. At the root of this secret was a faded Indian legend that old men told to children to make their eyes grow big. As Garth and Jim put the pieces of the puzzle together, they accidentally stumble upon a mysterious passageway, hurling them into another world - an Ancient American world. As Garth and Jim are hurled into this weird world, Jim's little sister, who came along and got thrown into the Ancient world, gets taken away by the Lamanites. So they have to save her while other bad and scary things happen like when some guys said that they would kill the captain of the Nephites, Captain Moroni. This book was very enjoyable and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was hard to put down at times but wasn't the best book I have ever read. If I were to rate this book out of 5 stars, I would rate it a definite 4.
Rating: Summary: Great For Mormon Children!! Review: I liked the premise of this book... a couple of kids going back in time among the Nephites and Lamanites of old to experience their hardships, learn to apply touch lessons into their lives, and learn to love The Book of Mormon. This story focuses on the time a few years after the Title of Liberty was raised by Captain Moroni. This is the story of Jim who is in need of a spiritual experience to increase his faith and bring him back into the fold of the church. He has help from his friend, Garth, a Book of Mormon expert, as they accidentally go back in time while searching some old caves. Jim's little sister (Jenny) comes along as well and gets kidnapped by the Lamanites. Jim befriends many common Book of Mormon heroes as they try to save Jenny and get back home. For children over 9 or 10, this is a GREAT read. It really brings the Book of Mormon to life. For adults, well, I found it a little bit childish for my tastes but I have heard that the following books are more mature. I'm looking forward to reading more about these types of adventures. My only real complaint was that the ending seemed to wrap itself up too quickly. It was almost like the author was tired of writing the book and just wrote to get it over with in a hurry.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: I personally have read this entire series an I think it is wonderful. The books just draw you in as you go throught the pages one by one. This book starts out with the story of Jim Hawkins at 13 and his lack of desire to live the gospel. When he goes to a Home Teaching appointment with his dad and is told by Garth Plimpton about an ancient undiscovered wall painting he found depicting a group of people pictured in white being chased into a rainbow colored hole by people depicted in a darker color. Then, shortly thereafter he hears the legend of the Rainbow Room in Frost Cave. From there Garth, Jim, and his little sister Jenny are launched into an adventure into the land of the Nephites where they fight in wars, Serve as interpreters and live an adventure they won't soon forget (unless they tell).

Rating: Summary: A must! Review: Some things I thought made this book interesting were the characters, the setting, and the never ending adventure. The main character I liked was Moroni, because of how powerful he is, and how he deals with situations. I also liked Garth, because he is thrill seeking, kind, and still quite imperfect. I especially like near the end of the book, where all the battles happen. And this is where Moroni gives some cunnig battle orders. So mainly, I think this book is full of thrills, and once you pop the fun doesn't stop.
Rating: Summary: Amazing books!! Review: This book gives "historical fiction" a completely new meaning. I LOVE it! I couldn't put it down. One of the things that I like about this way of telling a story, is that for those who find it difficult to visualize what is happening when they read the Scriptures, the stories in the scriptures come alive just as if you were there in person. --George Stancliffe
Rating: Summary: Great book, even for the non-"mormony" type Review: This, is a great book. Everyone at my school is reading it. At first I thought it would be very stupid, I didn't want another church book to read. But, when I started I couldn't stop. If find this book, and you read the first 10 pages your pretty much out of luck. It's too late, you won't be able to put it down. A must read for any LDS kid.
