Summary: keep guessing
Review: As the story unfolds in what vividly appears as a real N.H. setting,I think we come to know both the main character and the author through all the many personal comments that are shared. As for a whodunit...definitely a case for a Sherlock...or perhaps new kid on the block...Samantha, the numerologist detective. A tough mystery to crack!

Summary: Inspiration
Review: I got this book because I have known Dusty Bunker for as long as I have known my best friend who just so happens to be her grandson. Dusty has always wanted to be a mystery writer and now she has had her chance.
When I read the book, I couldn't put it down. Dusty made the world in this book seem real to me. I felt like I was there watching the whole thing. Of course, when I picture Samantha Blackwell, Dusty is whom comes to mind.
Great work Dusty.

Summary: No Home Run but Maybe a Single
Review: This author paints lead character Samantha Blackwell in living color and - one suspects - in her own image. This becomes a thread in the tapestry of the story and a large part of what plot there is.

Little strength is given other characters in this muddled murder mystery. Except for Agatha - the town matriarch - most others serve as forgettable backdrops. In a who-dun-it, this is fatal.

The story takes place in the fictional town ot Georgetown, New Hampshire - suburb of old seaport Portsmouth and in from the coast. Lots of historical homespun inspiration here but indifferently passed over, like the one-dimensional characters. Anyone familiar with the 18-mile New Hampshire Seacoast knows this was opportunity missed.

Examples of opportunity not missed are words of wisdom interspersed into the story by Samantha - loving wife, mother, good neighbor and master diplomat - keeping readers involved. She has engaging qualities that give her high marks for believability. Until, that is, numerolgy becomes an issue in the story line....involving the murderer challenging Samantha's deciphering skills.

Introducing the numbers devise is artifice and could well have been substituted by almost anything to engage readers on a practical level - without the writer's self-indulgence.

The author shows good promise of better things to come, if she gives plot precedence over the arcane - with strong story lines clearly stated and well-defined characters that do not fade into one another.

This story works okay for teen readers.

Adult readers expect more.

Review: Wow! This book kept me up 'til 2 a.m.! Cowberry chutney, a rhyme-chanting killer, secret codes - everything a mystery lover could ask for. I loved the characters, the twists, and the surprise ending. You'll love Samantha and her husband Nick and a whole bunch of unforgettable characters in this small New England town. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!
