Rating: Summary: It's hard to believe that this Jamie Rhodes's debut novel. Review: Jamie Rhodes' "Prey, Messiah" is a captivating new novel that commands readers to excercise their most vivid imagination. "Prey, Messiah is a spiritual journey that encompasses the age old adage of good vs. evil. This book promises to attract even the most illusive reader. Rhodes certainly knew his target audience when he crafted this cosmically sinister novel. If you are of the mysterious and sinister mind, then this book is for you. It is a variety of story lines all woven int one. "Prey, Messiah" is alluring in part because of the author's ability to constantly connect biblical references with present day evils. The determination of evil screams throughout these pages. Many readers may find themselves asking is the pot of evil bottomless? At the same time "Prey, Messiah" celebrates the dominating force of good. Rhodes, your intensity and creativity screams throughout the pages of this mysterious work of art. Readers will no doubt agree that "Prey, Messiah" opens the gateway to places only visited by deep imagination. As in "Moses", "Prey, Messiah" is the story of a great Messiah sent to free his people from the volatile raft of bigotry. A series of deliberate actions unfold that can enable or inhibit the Messiah's mission. "Prey, Messiah" begins in the 60s but the plot spans all eras. Throughout the book the author uses subliminal dialect to connect ancient biblical history with modern reality. Readers will certainly agree that the author's cast of characters are not only time honored but intriguingly complex. The most powerful character on this cosmic journey is Abadon. His contempt is ghastly. Brave readers are advised to enter the world of "Prey, Messiah" equipped with a shield of armor. Abadon has no limits, the weaker the prey, the better. He's the devil's disciple in its darkest hour. At first glance Abadon may appear to be simply another homocidal maniac. But he's much more, he typifies destruction. Possibly the most frightening aspect of this bountyless wonder is that it is quite possibly that our society may house several homicidal replicas. For the reader that stands ont the side of "good", Rhodes has created a collection of characters that will quench your thirst. Uncle Gabe is the ageless wisdom of Africa in human packaging. His determination to protect the "Messiah" may provide readers with some comfort. Readers may agree that Uncle Gabe's strength is based upon his faith in a higher being. Rhodes, created three warriors that many readers will agree resemble three favorite characters of the bible. "Prey, Messiah" is not another great story with a predictable climax splattered on pages. Readers are challenged to unravel this conclusion before devouring the final page. The author uses this novel to illuminate the natural human innate desire to survive. "Prey, Messiah" is an exceptional piece of work. I sat on the edge of my seat throughout this tantalizing novel. Jamie Rhodes is another splendid example of gifted writers in the African American community. His "Prey, Messiah" is a mysterious, primeval and sensitive novel all rolled up in one. Readers of all sorts are encouraged to marvel at the work of this gifted author.

Rating: Summary: An engrossing reflection on the human condition Review: Prey, Messiah is a thoughtful essay on our humanity - the good, the evil, the love, the hate, and the passion in each of us. Setting the drama in a period of true chaos allows the characters to explore the limits of what each human is possible of. The spiritual aspect of the novel provides a wonderful counterpoint to the self-serving nature of man. I enjoyed the book and look forward to more work by Mr. Rhodes.
