Summary: Cliche!
Review: A very enjoyable book that was hard to put down. Exciting mystery with believable characters and added bonus of the White Mountains setting.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: More than a mystery - an adventure in the White Mountains!
Review: I enjoyed the twists and turns of this mystery immensely. (To give you a reference point, I read Patrick O'Brian and Tony Hillerman, and feel Eric Ambler is the Great Master of the thriller genre, with gavin Lyall running a close second. And I don't like Ludlum.)

This story is set in the White MTns of NH. Pinkham gives a good sense of the place, and also takes the action down to Boston. Riveting plot. Fun. Kept me up almost all night.

I give the overall plot, pace and sense of place a definite 5 stars, maybe a 4 to literary style and character development, etc. But hey, Peter Pinkham isn't trying to dethrone Faulkner or Durrell -- he just wants you to have a good time!

Disclaimer: I happen to live in the White Mtns. I have no connection with the author. I have high standards and would not be submitting this review merely to favor some local guy -- this is a very good book!

Summary: An absorbing tale, mystery/suspense, in the White Mountains
Review: I read one fiction book a year, but this one kept me up till 2:00 AM to finish it. It caught my eye because I grew up in New England. This story is laid in the White Mountains, involves an Indian legend, and features an out-of-shape city dweller whom I could identify with. His metamorphosis into a fit hiker/camper while he traces a mysterious death and cryptic message and falls in love with a mystery woman who may do him in makes great reading -- and the ending caught me completely by surprise. If you like the out-doors and enjoy mysteries, here's a book you won't want to miss!

Summary: Cliche!
Review: It looks like the author never met a cliche he didn't like. The love scenes were laughable and the characters straight from central casting. Don't waste your money on this one.

Summary: What a super book.
Review: Ranks right up there with P.D.James, which is (from me) the ultimate compliment... Having hiked the Presidentials and run up Mt. Washington several times I have a special affinity to the area which increased my enjoyment while reading and trying to envision the areas you were talking about. The bottom line though is that you kept me thoroughly entertained and engrossed in trying to figure out who was the villain. Just when it looked like things were getting all tidied up you'd pull another surprise...great job. Thanks heaps.

P.S. I read it in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. Burned the midnight oil on that baby.
