Review: John D. MacDonald scored again with this atmospheric, deeply moving novel about a man both coming to terms with the death of his wife and the wilful self-destruction of his best friend. As usual with John D., the sentiments expressed about life, people and the state of the world in the last half of the millenium are timeless. Why aren't these books more readily available? We are in desperate need of classics like this.
