Summary: A Twisting, Turning, Southern Mystery
Review: I have to admit it was the cover of the book that caught my eye. Not always a good reason to buy a book, but in this case it worked out just fine. Sometimes an author can grab you and put you right into the story at the beginning of a book. Teri Holbrook does that with Grass Widow. The atmosphere of the story reminds me a little of Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Café by Fannie Flagg. There is more than one mystery to be solved here and the characters involved in doing so are well developed and likable. I had a little trouble keeping the family members straight...who is who's cousin etc., but then I have that problem with my own family. I am pleased to have discovered another mystery writer whose future books I can look forward to reading

Summary: moving and entertaining - a great mystery
Review: I originally wrote this review on August 14, 1998 but I am re-submitting it for my member page.... This was a book that I selected through Amazon's recommendation and boy am I glad. It was nice to not read a serial killer, slasher fast paced big city detective novel for a change.

Terri Holbrook's book kept me interested right up to the last page. I liked the characters and it was nice to read a mystery that felt like a cosy novel for a change. While this book definitely had great twists and turns and kept me guessing all the way through it was a book that was not just about "who done it".

The Grass Harp shows what can happen to a family and how a suicide can affect a family generations down the line. I hope to see the characters again soon.

Summary: confusing but enjoyable
Review: ok, this was a very bizarre book. i think it had an interesting story-line, when you could keep track of it. i felt somethimes like i was just reading in circles because the book progreessed so slowly and kept looping around. underneath it all, the book had a really interesting plot, characters and prose. i just wish it had been a little more direct. i generally enjoyed this book and since i had to keep reading to solve the mystery, i was glad that it wasn't obvious and that the stretch to the end wasn't painful.

Summary: Intriguing and Interwoven
Review: This was a fascinating story and the ending was an extremely satisfying shock. There were a great number of characters and it was a little difficult to keep track of who was who and what generation they belonged but they were all very realistic and familiar. It was a little slow moving but still readable and the end everything wrapped up nicely. I hope there will be more books on the very interesting Gail.
