Summary: Thoughtful Look at Immigration and Environment Issues
Review: Juliana is a doctor's widow fleeing Central American death squads with her young daughters. Staggerbush is a Vietnam veteran who has finally found the job he looked for all his life. Their paths cross in the Arizona desert, as each is forced to make bitter choice. Staggerbush quits his job, saving Juliana and the girls from the death squads, but is too proud to accept any thanks. Blind to the fact that Juliana is in love with him and with jobs hard to find, he heads into the mountains to protect clear-cut loggers from environmental saboteurs. One of her daughters gets involved with the environmentalists and Juliana rushes in to save her from the battle that is shaping up. After a bloody ambush on the Mexican border, Staggerbush and Juliana join forces to seek the lost girl amid the black sands of Pinacate desert.
