Summary: The Thinking Person's Mystery
Review: I fell in love with this book right from the beginning for its edgy and lush landscape -- the sweat tinged nights when the electricity is out again, the sound of the snail shells being crushed beneath the tires of a police car on its way to a crime scene. I soon fell in love with the interior landscapes of Ann, the bright and lonely doctor, and Han, the equally intelligent and alienated detective. Watching these two souls discover each other, the killer, and their own precarious place in Somoa was a fascinating experience. There are worlds within worlds within worlds in this book. Don't miss the chance to explore them all.

Summary: Coming a Cropper in Samoa
Review: One of the greatest charms of this thriller is the author's intimate knowledge of Samoan life and culture, and her willingness to share it. You will come away with both a good read and a new appreciation for this island sorta-paradise. Lady Doc Ann Maglynn and her sidekick, anything-but-boyfriend the Korean-American cop Han confront political murder and personal peril among the customs, taboos, and nonlinear logic of Samoan life, where the literal truth is the last thing a detective is likely to get from a witness. A great read that I was sorry to see come to an end.
