Rating: Summary: Another very good read Review: This is the second Yvonne Montgomery book I read, but I worry she may have written only two. I much prefer her Finney Aletter character to the detective in that best-selling alphabet series.Obstacle Course is an appropriate name for this complicated story. Similar to her previous book, Scavengers, the author has juxtaposed a parallel story within the main one--this time using a different typeface. It was disconcerting at first, but began to make sense and intensified the poignancy of a social issue germane to the plot. Yep. This story has a subtext that goes beyond recreational reading. For that I thank Yvonne Montgomery's conscience. The story involves almost too many characters, but that makes sense when someone rich, powerful and connected is the victim. Finney Aletter maneuvers through the story's obstacle course with some competence. Her policeman lover is supportive and yet professional. The relationship is believable. Despite a few opportunities the author does not exploit her characters' weaknesses to twist the plot or extend the story. Bravo. The first Yvonne Montgomery book came out in 1987 and this one in 1990. I hope she has produced more that are not yet available through Amazon. She should have a series.
