Rating: Summary: A Gallant Debut Review: 'The Devil To Pay' truly is a sailing mystery adventure, in which a beautiful boat (yacht) takes the lead role for a good portion of the story. I found the characters appealing because they rose to an enormous challenge with courage and intelligence. Leda, the heroine, particularly impressed me. The plot is tight, with a fitting surprise ending. Boat lovers will especially appreciate the detailed descriptions of everything pertaining to the boat and sailing, but even I, a total ignoramus of sea-faring matters, appreciated the deft way in which the author made use of his extensive knowledge of boating to develop and further the plot.Well done, Mr. Parola!
Rating: Summary: A dark, murderous mystery novel Review: The Devil To Pay: A Sailing Adventure Mystery by Gene J. Parola is a dark, murderous mystery novel where a yacht delivery crew is called on a seemingly ordinary job to pick up a client's boat in the Bahamas. Their routine turns deadly as they get mixed up in a shadowy intrigue, and a trapped woman on the boat may or may not be the what she appears to be. An absorbing tale of hidden motivations that keeps the reader guessing until the end, The Devil To Pay is enthusiastically recommended for those mystery buffs who appreciate a well crafted tale of intrigue and suspense.

This book would be enjoyed by any reader, but particularly by salties. Mr. Parola is expert at descriptions. His storytelling, his characters and the amazing plot involving Cuba and intelligence agencies are superb. Great reading aboard or ashore.

Rating: Summary: Spellbinding Intrigue! Review: This twist on conspiracy theory based mystery novels is a great addition to the genre. Lots of suspense and surprises! Just when you think you have it figured out, a new development takes you off and away on another adventure. Another layer of this book is that it takes place almost entirely on sail boats! The Devil to Pay is a great mystery novel for the avid boater, with lots of references to boat rigging and sailing. The Devil to Pay is a great summer vacation read. Move over John LeCarre!
