Review: Nutcracker takes the comfortable spy genre, spikes it with wry political flavor, and serves it straight up, shaken not stirred. "Ripped from the headlines" certainly applies as author Rhodes takes complex geopolitical issues and melds them with old-fashioned suspense. You will find yourself reluctant to put this first novel down.

Summary: A crackling good book
Review: This international spy thriller intrigued me from the get-go; it was like reading tomorrow's news. Rhodes takes contemporary events and turns them into a first-class, fast-paced yarn. So engrossing it kept me up late, in order to reach the end quickly.

It is an intelligent suspense book,well-written, and very believable, reminiscent of the styles of LeCarre and Clancy best sellers, I'd read and admired before. And, it's nice to read a contemporary espionage novel in which the Americans aren't being bashed and the French get their comeuppances!

My only disappointment was that 'Nutcracker' wasn't longer. I hope this new author makes amends by writing its sequel soon.
