Summary: The Triumph of Failure
Review: "It has been fun writing all this out... and fun getting to know you, dear reader, even though you, too, are a part of this fiction." Well I for one, dear author, had as much fun reading your novel as you did writing it. Since I don't consider myself a fiction, I must reject your claim that you got to know me in the process. However, I most assuredly got to know you, as represented by your narrator, Joseph Andrews -- perhaps the most self-deprecatory protagonist in all literature. But apart from such meta-fictional considerations, this first novel by James I. Huston is hilarious, often outrageous, and replete with fascinating characters. And despite the heroic efforts of the hero to self-extinguish, he succeeds admirably in defining that fine line that separates failure from triumph. Read it, and have a good laugh.
