Rating: Summary: A Professional Viewpoint Review: A very intelligently and well-written book that's intriguing. Masterfully inteweaves plots and subplots that keep the reader engrossed from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: Keep turning those pages! Review: Great characters in a believable yet intricate tale. Fred Eilart is the type of person you could and would trust. A man of honesty and integrity, that by an unique coincidence falls prey to the hands of terrorists. Through courage and plain ole "backbone" he turns the tables on the terrorists and prevails with his and another's life. He also does the seemingly unthinkable in these days; he tells the truth about it! The obvious and purposeful lack of excessive foul language is noteworthy and refreshing. It reflects great credit on the author for being willing to tell a good story without having to "spice" it up. I'll look forward to the sequel to see what happens to Fred and Jeannine. Could be something going on there??? I guess we'll just have to wait and see?

Rating: Summary: A Great Read. Review: Paul Bergstrom's "The Eilart Affair" is a great read. Mr. Bergstron has expertly woven a tale of international and domestic politics, international terrorism and world business into an exciting, suspenseful and frighteningly believable novel. Fred Eilart, after thirty years of dedicated service as one of America's Prides best salesmen, found himself among the first group of those "let-go" in "a necessary downsizing and restructuring of America's Pride" following a hostile takeover by corporate raders led by Raoul Danziger. Fred has decided to accept his fate and retire when he is called by Danziger and asked to close a multi-million dollar equipment order for equipment America's Pride is trying to sell to Shiek Ohmar, an old friend of Fred's. The Shiek, suspicious of Danziger would only buy from his friend Fred. Reluctantly, Fred agrees to help. He knows the large influx of funds may save additional jobs at America's Pride. His plan, travel to Saudi Arabia, see his friend close the deal and return to retirement. This well intentioned decision thrusts Fred Eilart directly into a drama of international intrigue, politics and terrorism. Mistakenly kidnapped as a U.S. Senator by IRA terrorists he becomes a hunted man desperately fleeing terrorists and international government agencies. He feels that he must tell his story to Congress, even if it means his death or imprisonment. Barring his way are IRA terrorists, the CIA, FBI, British MI6, French and Spanish authorities and the U.S. Senator himself. Mr. Bergstrom's dynamic style guides Fred through the novel in a thrilling and fast-paced manner and makes it difficult to put the book down, I really enjoyed the book and believe it is the best that I have read this summer. It will make an outstanding movie.
Rating: Summary: CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE! Review: The Eilart Affair was one of the best books I have read in a long time. From the first page to the last, it kept my interest. The whole book was action packed. Mr. Bergstrom is quite the storyteller. And, although I am sure he started this book long before September 11, it really parallels today's current events. I truly can't wait for this book to hit the big screen. P.S. When will Mr. Bergstrom's next book be released?
Rating: Summary: Move over Clancey! This book is an absolute winner! Review: This book is well written. There are enough elements in it to get you going and keep you going without bogging you down with too much detail. Paul Berstrom has an absolute winner. This is the best book I've read all year. Move over Clancey.
Rating: Summary: The Eilart Affair Review: This book was a joy for me to read. I could relate to the value system that made the story so real. The way the story evolved and developed is what I enjoyed most. The author has a great imagination and was able to bring it together for an emotional conclusion. I think this story would make a super movie. I hope Al Pacino (Scent of a Woman) could play Fred. I hope Mr. Bergstrom keeps writing, I would enjoy reading this quality of book in the future.

Rating: Summary: An unconventional hero! Review: Who is Fred Eilart and why are the FBI, CIA, British MI6, Spanish and French authorities after him? How did a retired machinery salesman from Peoria become the subject of an international manhunt and a target of a terrorist kidnapping plot? Even a ruthlessly ambitious U.S. Senator is trying to find Fred Eilart in hopes that he can help him bring down a sitting U.S. president. But Fred has some surprises for everyone. Fred Eilart is an unconventional sort of hero. This book has action, intrigue, politics, suspense, and all delivered without the ubiquitous four-letter expletives that make most modern fiction so objectionable. The author demonstrates a keen grasp for international and domestic politics, business and world travel. Several of the characters in this novel will be tantalizingly familiar to the reader. If you are into moral relativism, situational ethics, and values-neutral non-judgementalism, then this book is not for you. But if you yearn for the days when character was still king and a person was judged, not by glib talk but by deeds, then this is definitely a book for you. I couldn't quite give it five stars only because I managed to guess a major plot development well in advance. Also, I thought it could use a tad more dialogue. That does not detract from the enjoyment of this book and it kept me turning pages from cover to cover. I was even tempted to peek at the ending (I didn't) because I couldn't stand the suspense. That is the mark of a fine author. I highly recommend this book.
