Rating: Summary: Prelude to ... a good first mystery novel. Review: If you like stories about wealth, greed and murder, this mystery is sure to hold your attention. I frequently seek out the works of new authors, and the style and imagination expressed in this first offering of new writer Mary Bottom was a refreshing departure from the drivel I so often encounter. The ending was a surprise, even though the text was laced with clues ... a true thriller to the end. My favorite kind of mystery novel! A great read. I hope she a sequel.

Rating: Summary: Prelude to Destruction a winner Review: Mary Covington Bottom spins a yarn with the best of them. I started with the book and found I couldn't stop. The story is crisp and to the point. The characters are believable and the plot takes a lot of satisfying twists. At one point I thought the story was satisfactorily concluded only to realize we were only one third through. That is when the tale jumped out of my preconceived pattern, and tore off like a wild stallion. The book follows an Investigator, his emerging relationship with a strong willed ex-US Marshal turned lady lawyer and includes some truly evil wealthy types trying to frame the Investigator for the loss of a triple crown winner. You don't have to be "horsey" to appreciate the adroit arrangement of the puzzle pieces as good and evil clash in Mary Covington Bottom's first effort. I even liked the character of Rufus, large, dedicated bodyguard for the lady lawyer. This would make a crackling good movie!
