Summary: Imaginative and theatrical
Review: A murder mystery in the "hard-boiled San Francisco detective" genre, this novel features quick pacing and globe-trotting locales. While the characterizations are a bit weak, they're more than made up for by a plot line that's imaginative and substantially different from other crime novels that I've read.

In particular, the book's opening scene and its final act are highly theatrical. The femme fatale's usurped stage name is a clever pun on her "true life" role in the story as well.

All in all, a worthwhile and entertaining read.
