Rating: Summary: Cheap, cheap, CHEAP! Review: I didn't expect much for the price, but this was far worse than anticipated. The "hardcover" was cheesy -- like on kiddie books. The photos were ordinary, inferior to many I've seen of 9-11. The printing job was awful -- blue ink must have been cheap at the time, as the whole thing has a blue cast. And the book stunk -- literally -- it reeked of paint or kerosene or nailpolish remover. Give it a MISS!
Rating: Summary: Bad photography. Useless book. Review: I don't know what to say -- the photos are just BAD. The development is fine, but the subjects of the pictures are just uninteresting and unremarkable. I bought this book without reading the reviews; bad idea on my part. Instead I'd recommend ONE NATION (by Life), SEMPTEMBER 11: A TESTIMONY (by Reuters), or SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 (by the Poynter Institute).
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and haunting tribute Review: I have just finished reading Magnum Photographers New York September 11. It is a beautiful, haunting tribute to New York. I have a copy in my client waiting room and the responses have been wonderful. I give it 5+ stars.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have Keepsake Review: I knew no one personally on that fateful day ... yet I wake up each morning with a feeling of sadness as my first thoughts are of the terrible tragedy that struck our country. I bought this book for a keepsake for myself, my children and grandchildren so we will never forget those lives lost and the strength, courage and closeness our nation has achieved because of it. The photographs in this book are phenominal.. capturing more understanding and perspective on the devastation than ever could be captured by watching it on TV.
Rating: Summary: Stirring Memories Review: I live in downtown NY and witnessed first hand some of what is pictured in this book. It is a tremendous collection of photographs, one that is sure to bring tears to your eyes. Never forget.
Rating: Summary: Some great pictures, but.... Review: I received this book for Christmas because I wanted some kind of document of that horrible day. This book does have some great pictures, so I will always keep it, but something always bothered me about it. I looked through it once and put it aside. Then last week I was at Target and saw One Nation by Life. I stood in the aisle on a Sunday afternoon crying because that book really did touch me. When I got home I picked up this book and again noticed that I didn't feel compelled to look through it, unlike the other book which drew me into that hellish day and what people at the World Trade Center endured for us. I think one thing that bothered me when I first looked at the book back in December is the total lack of a picture of Bush or Guiliani. Maybe this was an editorial oversight, but I doubt that since there is a large picture of Clinton, and of course he appears to be groping some woman. 50 years from now someone looking at this book would assume he was still president on 9-11. Okay, maybe the editors voted for Gore, but even the most partisan hack would have to admit that it was Guiliani's finest hour. And if to be honest, it was Bush's, too.

Rating: Summary: Plain Old Jane Review: I think that this book has all the potential in the world to be a very nice keepsake book, however, the publishers of these type works are usually too selective when putting out books like this. The pictures are great, but they leave out other key images of Sep. 11 that make the entire story work. There are also way too many words and not enough facts about that tragic day to really pull it al together. By the time I had finished the book, I didn't feel any different than when I picked it up. There was no conclusion and the images just didn't make the mood. I'd buy this book, but they certainly could have done better.
Rating: Summary: Photojournalism at it's best Review: I waited with interest to see what hastily-produced cash-in's on the WTC tradgedy would be put together knowing that if I waited a little longer their would be some actual quality books put out. This is one of the few good ones- extremely well laid out and thoughtfully arranged, with first-hand accounts from the photographers, it brings home the feeling of what it was actually like to witness the event while most of us could only stare at our tv screens in disbelief. This book is in no way morbid unless you cant deal with the fact that people died here. It remembers the towers before but focuses mainly on what really mattes- the people. ..., this is probably the only book i've seen so far that does justice to the 11th.
Rating: Summary: Sub-par effort Review: I was very disappointed by this effort, esp. from Magnum, a name I associated with quality photography. Some pictures were "new" -i.e., not the usual crop of pictures we've seen. But even allowing for the fact that many photos were taken in the aftermath of the fallen towers, almost all the pictures looked "muddy," grainy and/or dull. Few, if any, of the photos popped out at you with clarity. A real disappointment. Life's commemorative issues (paper and hardcover) did a much better job, though with more predictable photos.
