Summary: mulings of a right-wing ideologue
Review: When reading Timmerman's SHAKEDOWN, and the views of the Rush Limbaugh brigade that constitute the majority of the reviews presented here, it is wise to remember that Jesse Jackson, like any politically outspoken black man in a white world, is prone to receive villification by the right. Timmerman is a well-known far-right ideologue who surrenders any pretense to intellectual balance by gravitating between transparent hatred for the man, and ill-tempered contempt. There is no pretense to bestowing upon Jackson any positive human quality. In this light, Timmerman's judgments and analysis are untrustworthy, to put it mildly. They clearly serve a political purpose, and an ignoble one at that: right-wing hatred bears too close a resemblance to fascism.
One may disagree with Jackson's choice of "friends" even in a country that still has far to go in keeping the promise of justice for all, a concept that Timmerman appears to have little use for, when it is not partisanly selective.
As far as fairness is concerned, this book is the real "shakedown." It is destined to be no more than a footnote for future biographies of the man.

Summary: Review of Williams of Massachusetts
Review: Mr. Williams ignorant review demonstrates his inability - non-desire? - to see the world as it is. He doesn't seem even to have read the book ("who is the author...") and therefore is unable to argue any of the author's points. This fine investigation, then, remmains unchallenged: Jackson is a self-ordained "minister" and con-man.

Summary: Devastating, Well Researched Indictment
Review: I wish someone had written this book 10-15 years ago. I hesitated to read this book since I was worried that Timmerman, a writer for The Spectator, might do a hatchet job, simply a conservative attack on a liberal spokesperson. Timmerman worked hard to get his facts straight, often quoting former friends or associates about what Jackson is really about. The book's title sums up Jackson's character and modus operandi best. Perhaps the most shocking display of arrogance, ignorance and selff-aggrandisement came in Africa, where African lives and liberties were 'sold out'... While I did not find the book to be well written, I was more concerned about whether the whole story would be well balanced. After considering Jackson's record, I realize it would be near impossible to get a balanced account except from fellow hustlers who got on board Jackson's train and reaped the financial /political benefits. It's a pity- 15 years ago I found him to be a spellbinding public speaker--but there was always the fatal lack of character and moral compass... Jesse Jackson proved how easy it is to use real victims to his own advantage, and create false victims for his own profit. I wish the media would look for Honest Responsible Black Leaders for the real story and legitimate grieviances of the poor/undereducated rather than build podiums for [people] like Jackson (and Sharpton). This book really opened my eyes .. . .

Summary: The author has written a devastating and truthful book
Review: Kenneth Timmerman presents the overwhelming evidence against Jessie Jackson in a very calm and dispassionate manner. The author contends that the intellectual virus of political correctness has allowed Jackson to game the American system to his advantage. The famous civil rights leader may do a few nice things for his constituency, but the Reverend Jackson is first, last, and foremost taking care of number one. Greed and ambition primarily motivate his actions. Timmerman is extremely careful with his facts. He does not come across as angry and ideological. One cannot tell by reading this book whether the author is a registered Democrat or a Republican. This highly respected journalist, though, has no hesitation in explicitly describing Jackson as a liar, an accusation that is libelous if the author hasn't got his ducks lined up properly in a row. The publisher wouldn't have dared print "Shakedown" unless there were ample facts to back it up. Timmerman is also very well aware that even a minor mistake will be used by Jackson's supporters as a reason to discredit the whole book.

Jessie Jackson specializes in race card shakedowns. Merely hinting that a prominent individual or business might be racist is usually enough to garner a major payday for the Liberal ideologue. Timmerman asserts that politicians of both major parties are fearful of stepping on his toes. Even safely ensconced federal government bureaucrats are hesitant to take Jackson to task. The Internal Revenue Service especially seems terrified of Jackson's power. Jackson claims to earn only a modest salary, but lives the lavish lifestyle that can be afforded by only the very wealthy. The self described man of God, declares Timmerman, is an inveterate womanizer who seems to have little hesitation to violate his wedding vows. There is even a serious question if the heroic Dr. Martin Luther King truly looked upon Jackson as a close comrade in the fight for civil rights. The author believes that Jackson lied about Reverend King dying in his arms.

The Revered Jackson's predilection towards radical politics is most disturbing. Timmerman describes Jackson's relationships with despotic world leaders Yasser Arafat, Fidel Castro, Charles Taylor, and Mohammar Qaddafi as warm and non confrontational. Jackson seems disinterested in encouraging democratic reforms in
the Third World. "Many of us remember that he is the man who is sick and tired of hearing about the holocaust and that he blamed 'Jewish domination of the media' for some of the news coverage he has gotten," adds Nathan Perlmutter, executive director of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nail B'rith.

Kenneth Timmerman's superb work on Jackson highlights the Liberal bias of the media. Needless to add, I strongly recommend "Shakedown." It is unfortunate that this book wasn't written years ago. Nonetheless, it's better late than never. I also hope that Timmerman receives a Pulitzer Prize. It's the least that his fellow journalists can do to make up for their own past failures.

Summary: Jesse Jackson: An American Disgrace
Review: This book is amazing! Any intelligent American knows by now that "Reverend" Jesse Jackson is nothing more than a scam artist and common racketeer. What is amazing is not his dull witted extortion, nor his nonsense racist rhetoric. What is truly incredible is that productive members of our society, CEOs and presidents of huge corporations, actually give this imbecile, his family, and cronies thousands of dollars to keep him quiet! After reading it, you won't know whether to laugh or cry at his incredible greed or corporate America's gullibility. Timmerman is certainly not going to get invited to any Hillary Clinton fundraisers after this one!

Summary: jesse is a scammer
Review: The FACTS that are presented in this book, with reliable sources, cannot be refuted. The fact that Amazon lets anyone just write reviews criticizing the book, while it is obvious that they have not read it -- is unfortunate. This is an important work on how one man has corrupted social harmony and fair play -- it should be required reading in a required class in every university, and every history class (senior level) in high school. I have made the recommendation to the NEA.

Summary: At Long Last, The Truth
Review: I believe the author 100%, he included all of his sources of information, and even had statements from witnesses, white and black. He is a disgrace to the civil rights community. If anyone chooses to still believe "Rev" Jackson is about helping the African-American community, than they are blind leftist liberal fools. This man is nothing but a phony that has used race to line his own pockets at the expense of his own people. I hope all people, and especially the federal government, will finally see what this con-man is doing, and cut off all financing for his "causes".

Summary: Polemic masquerading as journalsim
Review: I ordered this book with an open mind. I'm no fan of Jesse Jackson, and agree with the author that most of his actions are self-serving. But Mr. Timmerman expends almost as much word-count blasting left-wing ideology as he does exposing Mr. Jackson. The result is just another consevative diatribe, lamenting the fact that liberals still breathe air on this earth. In fact, I haven't seen the word 'communist' used as a pejoritive this much since leaving college. Maybe I should read the National Review more often. Anyway, while Mr. Timmerman's facts might be correct, his presentation and bias are suspect. It was so bad, in fact, I returned it.

Summary: What Does Jesse Jackson Have To Do With Civil Rights?
Review: Kenneth R. Timmerman's book is a great public service. "Exposing the real Jesse Jackson" is a most appropriate subtitle.

You should read this book to see the exposed Jesse Jackson:

- a ruthless man who lied and cheated to promote himself and destroy those who spoke the truth about him.

- a talented con-artist who used gangster tactics, cronies, connections, and threats to amass a fortune and build a black family dynasty.

- a greedy, self-serving opportunistic hustler who inflamed and exploited the race relationship to empower and enrich himself and his cronies.

But all of the above, revulsive as they are, are trivial - they are industry standard for politicians. That is why no established politicians want or dare to tangle with him. Jesse Jackson's contorted success was no doubt helped by the politician's cowardice, the media bias, and Bill Clinton's patronage.

The real tragedy is that the "Reverend" Mr. Jackson has poisoned the race relationship in America, and by promoting a thesis that black's success depended on preferential treatment and their failure were due to racism, he mortgaged the character of his own people. Poor blacks growing up with this man as their morale compass will get hopelessly lost.

Jesse Jackson is no Martin Luther King Jr. He has nothing to do with civil rights. He is a crook.

Hooray for Kenneth R Timmerman, Bill O'reilly, T. J. Rodgers, and others who dare to take him on and expose him.
