Rating: Summary: The Best book I've ever read Review: I'm 20 y/o and I don't read very often, but this book amazed me. I couldn't stop reading it untill i finished. I recommend to everyone, but mostly to those who likes fantastic adventures that are true
Rating: Summary: Most amazing true stroy I have ever read. Review: It does not ever cease to amaze me how Papi could achieve so much in just one life time. He epitomizes hopes and inspirations when there appears none. This is THE best book I have read in my life. I wish I could meet Papi in person & listen to everything all over. He is my sole hero.
Rating: Summary: A truly amazing story of a phenomenal man! Review: Even though I am only fourteen, I still wish to express my views on this. This is about the survival of one truly amazing man. The author of this book wrote its contents with such feeling, I got the impression that he placed himself in the bagne, and wrote from there. There is no explination for the feelings that crossed my mind, flipping page after page. It was a touching story of a brave man, who was wrongly accused, who fought against all odds, and won.
Rating: Summary: Gripping book, wonderful movie Review: A book you can enjoy re-reading every few years. For those who enjoy the author's spirit, let me also recommend "Alexander Dolgun's Story" of an American in the Gulag
Rating: Summary: Reading a Classic while in the Belly of the Beast Review: I first read this book while I was locked up in Arlington, VA. I was awaiting trial and I picked up this book out of the inmate library. While I was reading it I wished that I was in an old prison like some in French Guiana. Unforunately I was in a modern facility where only Papillon himself could escape. This book got me through my time in prison and is a good read every few months.
Rating: Summary: Top Ten All Time List Review: Unfortunately this book is no longer in print but is by far one of the best stories about human struggle and freedom of spirit. If you read and liked the Count of Monte Cristo you ought to love this. There is also a movie with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman that is sensational.
Rating: Summary: My personal bible Review: I have read this book many times and every time I am enthralled from start to finish, I also nearly always end up reading the sequel Banco right after. I have found that during the most troubled times in my life reading the book helps greatly to get a perspective on what really is important. I will never be without a copy, more stars are required.
Rating: Summary: Amazing book!! Review: Just incredible that this is real. And probably the best adventure novel ever written. Pure enjoyment and fun.
Rating: Summary: Great Human Achievment Review: The most astounding thing I came away with after reading this book was a sence of redemtion that the people in less "civilized" cultures had understood. The relationships that Papi founded, in the most disturbing (in dungeon), and beautiful circumstances (with indians) lead you to reflect on the realtionships in your own life. A wonderful story, that i will be sure to read again.
Rating: Summary: Its too good to be true! Review: If this story was a work of fiction it would be too unbelievable to be true. If only half is true it is still an amazing story. The empathy was there. I rejoyced at his victories, and felt sick when he failed. I wouldn't mind having Papi as a friend.
