Rating: Summary: A Celebration of Kitsch Klutter Review: I bought this for my brother for Christmas, and after reading dang-near the whole thing, I wanted to keep it. I have a lot of wacky stuff in my house, but it doesn't look nearly as cool as all the photos in this book. There are some great how-tos and plenty of 'profiles' that make it useful in addition to entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Smashing! Review: Finally, some appreciation for those whose decorating tastes may never reach the pages of Architectural Digest, but ooze with character! If you are a do-it-yourself-er, a tiki freak, live for flea markets and estate sales, or hang out in alleys on the first of the month, you need this book! I know I'll be setting off the fire alarm with Maranian's fabulous garnishes at my next soiree!
Rating: Summary: It's better than chicken nuggets. Review: So here's the deal, happy meal. I love this book, and I want someone to make some of the lamps or toilet seats from "Pad" for me. If you think you are this special person, please let me know.
Rating: Summary: loved it! Review: Even though my taste is more inclined to shabby chic, this book is an inspiration! I actually saw it in a bookstore, bought it online as a gift and after looking through it again, decided to keep it. Maybe I'll make a fuzzy kleenex cover (pg.108) and give that as a gift. I can't wait to see what this book will spawn; a website, a cable show, a magazine! Party on!
Rating: Summary: Waiting for "volume 2" Review: I just moved into a new apartment, and had grandiose plans of leopard curtains and odd colored walls, when I came across a review of this book in the Post. I had to have it, and I was not let down. I love showing the photos to my friends, and I think I might make the "Loves me not" toilet seat for the gay guys downstairs. My mom said that if I made the "porno-chic love lamp", I would have to put it away for her visits. If you like to decorate with flare, a sense of humor, and above all, individuality, then this book is a great starting point for you. Even if you have no intention on redecorating, there's some fun projects and cool photos in this book. It's like Heloise on acid. I'd love to see another volume of this book.
Rating: Summary: I'm addicted Review: Wow. I bought this book in Seattle and couldn't wait to get it home. I am now addicted to plastic resin coasters. I have to say, I've had many friends over who viewed my work inspired by this book, and everyone is so impressed at the creativity and uniqueness of all of the selections in the book.I am now going to host a "make your own plastic resin coaster" soiree. I love this book.
Rating: Summary: Like a Great Bargain at a Flea Market! Review: Finally, a book that showcases homes that are really cool, and filled with taste and peronality, rather than loads of money. As soon as I saw this books cover, I knew I had to have it. The cover with it's die-cuts are inspiring enough to want to have it on the top of a big stack of books. The design is very well done, and although it does not make a big difference to alot of people, as a designer of both graphics, and interiors, that is what draws me to a book first. I read the entire thing in 1 afternoon at work, as I could not wait to get home and read it! The fact that there is as much personality of the residents represented as the design of their dwellings, is a bonus - it's great to put a face with a place. As a New Yorker, I have done my share of dumpster diving, and rescuing stuff off the street to use in my home. This book is a good reference as to what to do after you drag it home. I hope there is a followup to PAD, and hope I can somehow be involved. Thanks for the inspiration.
Rating: Summary: Simply Divoon! Review: Upon the arrival of PAD on my doorstep last week, I must admit, I had no clue what a true surprise and treat I was in for. This book is unlike anything else I have ever read and is nothing short of explosive. With its luscious Technicolor photographs and top-notch writing, 'PAD' has already become a favorite in my collection. Entertaining while remaining informative, Matt Maranian finds the perfect balance among style, wit, and instructional guidelines. 'PAD,' consistently thorough in approach, even includes an index of instructions on such things as how to change light fixtures for those of us who don't know. Every project (and there are many) includes very clear and descriptive instructions, along with a series of concise drawings for further illustration. Completely original, even the most professional decorators and style fiends will find limitless inspiration from the book's instructional offerings. Opening the cover of PAD is like opening the door to another world. Even the cover, with its shimmery letters, looks ultra-exotic in itself, and its promise of ultra-glamour is indeed fulfilled. Dim the lights, grab a cocktail, and allow PAD to work its magic!
Rating: Summary: Adventures in home decor ! Review: This book is like no other. Who will like it ? If you love La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, you will love this book. If you think Nest Magazine is way better than Elle Decor, you will love this book. The homes shown here are fun, colorful and the main reason they work is because there were no 'short cuts' taken. The rooms are complete from floor to ceiling. Not just a beanbag and a lavalamp, but complete rooms with funky paintjobs and ubercool bars, livivngrooms and restrooms. The stuff shown might be overkill for some people, but you can easy use it as an idea book. Here are liberace, hippie, tiki and space style pads. Get this book, if you dare living in a fun home. ( No Ikea allowed )
Rating: Summary: To those who had negative reviews of the book Review: Ya just don't get it so don't get it...this is for those of us who have a very different vision compared to those of you who pay someone to "design" your house. We know who we are and you ain't one of us so stop ragging on a book for us...go pick up Town & Country or something. A great hands-on book for us crafty and creative types who don't wanna live in Martha's house.
