Summary: FINALLY A BOOK LONG AWAITED FOR THE PUBLIC!
Review: After hearing an outstanding radio interview with the authors of Never Again, our department decided to buy a few copies. To our delight, the book was everything hyped-up to be. The book goes through a step-by-step detailed instructional lesson on many aspects of self-defense which would be great for the everyday person, flying public, families and teenage children. We have issued copies to all personnel in the department and have recommended it to many other agencies. We want to thank the authors for a "Job Well Done!"

Summary: Outstanding Book
Review: After reading the Associated Press article on Never Again, we purchased the book. We have read many books on flight safety since the disaster of 911. Never Again is the most detailed book we have seen and read. The pictures are most helpful in which an everyday person flying can understand. The authors of the book have outstanding backgrounds and it shows throughout the book. We highly recomend this book!

Summary: A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR EVERYONE THAT FLIES! OUTSTANDING!
Review: After reading the superb New York Times article in the business section on page C7 this morning, we purchased the book. We were very impressed with the backgrounds of the authors and further impressed with the book's content. The instructional step-by-step pictures are great! The self-defense tactics performed throughout the book should be easy to grasp for everyone. This is a book everyone should read and constantly refer to as needed on a day-to-day basis!

Summary: Good Book and Helpful
Review: Bought the book on a whim to read on the train; actually fun and interesting read, and yes, I did learn a few moves! I took martial arts when I was much younger, and this helped me refresh on some of the techniques too. Would at least expand the commoner's awareness of what might work, if another high-jacking happened, giving more confidence and education to stop or rescue the situation - and hey, education is a good thing! Anyway, I recommend it.

Summary: It is about time, true protection
Review: I am a pilot for a Major Airline in Florida. The Airline Industry has done so much since 09/11 to protect the airplanes, the passengers, the bags, but the reality is terrorist do not need any weapon other than their bare hands, these individuals are highly trained and extremely deadly. The bottom line is the only safety the flying public has is the passengers themselves. This book is outstanding and very helpful in showing passengers techniques that terrorist have already been trained in. I am so impressed with this book, I have brought several copies and sent them to my pilot friends flying around the world, so that they can get the word out. Our only hope is that the flying public realizes that they are the last line of defense and this book can only act to help.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I had high hopes for this book. I share similar backgrounds with each of the authors. I am a pilot for a major airline, a former police officer and a former Marine Officer. I have trained in numerous martial arts and self-defense systems over the last 20 years. I have worked with the government, industry and unions on aircrew self-defense training issues.

My problems with this book fall into three areas; production quality, concept, and techniques.

First, and least of my concerns is the production quality. The book looks and reads like the average martial arts guide---black and white photos with scanty explanations.

The book attempts to teach control techniques. For example, a pain compliance technique is shown for removing a passenger from his seat. But why would a crewmember want to forcibly remove a non-violent passenger from his seat? Save that for the law enforcement officers on the ground. The threat is terrorism, not non-compliant passengers.

If we think we can "control" a terrorist by causing him pain we have already lost. Extreme violence can only be met with extreme violence---to teach anything else is dangerous.

Many of the techniques in the book are simply inappropriate for flight crews. Of the remaining techniques, many are patently flawed. In particular, the knife defense section contains an assortment of techniques, none of which have the defender maintaining direct control of the knife. This means that if any part of the technique fails, the defender gets cut.

The strikes shown in the book are all shown with large wind-ups prior to the actual strike. Even if the tight confines of an aircraft allowed room for this, it telegraphs one's intentions, decreasing the effectiveness of the strike.

The remaining techniques are old-school police academy moves. None of the major advances in defensive tactics of the last ten to fifteen years are shown.

Finally, the book makes no attempt at showing the reader effective ways of training in defensive tactics. Heavy bag training or pad drills, and realistic, reactive training must be incorporated in any defensive tactics program.

There is no substitute for hands-on training. A good guidebook can help out a lot, but unfortunately "Never Again" is not one.

Summary: OUTSTANDING!
Review: I work for a major airline! I'm recommending the purchase of the book to friends, family and the air flying community. As an Attendant, my dealings with flying our patrons/customers has been sorted and varied. Scares, while in the air, certainly have occurred. This book is wonderfully concise. It is a great manual to be able to refer to time and time again. The pictures provide easy to follow anatomies of the moves. Would love to see the airline provide a hands-on self-defense course for us all based on the moves in the book. I've not yet had to apply any of the moves but I feel so comfortable with the feeling that: "I can!" To the authors: "Thank you! Long overdo"

Summary: Not written for passengers
Review: The title is misleading; it says it's for the flying public, which most would associate with passengers, yet it's actually for crewmembers. The print is large, and so are the white spaces. Lots of poor quality photos of defensive tactics.

I am a flight attendant for a major airline who underwent revised hijacking security training after 9/11. Pictures are not sufficient. You have to have someone to practice with if you're interested in the physical aspect of the book (via the pictures).

The book has some good information for those of you who are not crewmembers, but I wouldn't pay $15.95 for it.

Summary: Outstanding and Overdue!
Review: This has to be the BEST Self-defense Guide Ever! It should be require that every crew member and passenger review this well written with easy to follow pictures of self-defense control tactics and techniques. As a Captain for a major airline, I can only hope my Flight Attendants and passengers are this well prepared! Thanks to all who put this book together-NEVER AGAIN!

Summary: Garbage techniques
Review: This is one of worst books on self defense that I have ever read. Now I know that anything can get published. Anyone with even half decent Judo or jiu-jitsu or just a pissed off dude would be able to destroy anyone trying this garbage. After you pinch their lips or try the knee strike to the thigh, get ready for the real attack. All you will have done is irritate the guy. BOHICA!

Not one effective strangle in the whole book. Nothing on restraining a hijacker after they have been neutralized. At least show how to use a neck tie or a scarf to secure their hands after they have been rendered unconscious. Only problem is this book doesn't have any techniques that would put someone out.

Your better off with nothing. All this book does is going to do is give you a false sense of confidence.
