Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: This is exactly the kind of poorly-writen, factually inaccurate nonsense that give liberals fuel to paint us honest Republicans as "extremests".
Rating: Summary: Another Great Book Flawed By Publishing Error Review: This is another of the great books about how the President's disastrous foreign policy actions have given rise to international terrorism and have isolated the US from the rest of the world. Miniter's impeccable assertions of the President's utter failure to capture Osama and of his penchant for mindless attacks on foreign countries, leave the reader feeling enlightened and outraged at the same time. Unfortunately, as with many of the other excellent books that cover the same topic of the President's dangerously imcompetent screw-ups, this one is marred by the colossal typo in the title and erroneous cover art. As any idiot with half a brain can tell, the title was meant to read "...How George Bush's Failures Unleashed Global Terror", and was to be accompanied by the eternally puzzled looking George W.
Rating: Summary: Shameful and Non-Factual Review: Though good for the Clinton-haters, this book fails at every turn. It distorts the facts in a way that does a real disservice to those committed to fighting the terrorist threat, whomever they may be. The Clinton years were a time of real commitment to finding Bin-Laden and his crew, and I remember well that during these years the walls of many of our embassies displayed large posters of Bin-Laden with the word "Murderer" in heavy red type above his picture along with a prominent display of the reward offered. It is of course GW Bush who has muffed the hunt for Bin Laden with his huge and draining sideshow in Iraq, which we all know (even Bush in this case) had nothing going with Bin Laden or Al-Qaida. The kindest description for this book is "hopelessly amateurish." The author has an ax to grind and little more; he is certainly not expert on the ways or threats of terrorism.

Rating: Summary: The Predator and "lies" Review: Someone who claims he works on the Predator--and he may very well--says that the Predator was never deployed anywhere near Afghanistan prior to 9-11. Since he has not heard of the deployment of two Predators in the Clinton years to Central Asia, he asserts it is a "lie." Well. A "lie" is a strong term. And just because one person has not heard something does not make that thing a falsehood. Let's consider sources, which are amply footnoted in my book. First, my book is not the first to report this fact; it has appeared in the Washington Post (multiple times) and in congressional testimony (ditto). Moreover, Richard Clarke, Clinton's counterterrorism czar, and Sandy Berger, National Security Advisor, told me on the record that two were deployed, spotting what they believed was bin Laden three separate times. Other intelligence and Centcom command personnel confirmed the fact. After one crashed in the late summer of 2000, a bureaucratic blame game grounded the other plane. If this person wants to contact me to discuss this, I'd be happy to talk to him. I suggest that he reach me through my press guy, Peter Robbio, at (703) 683-5004 ext. 116--so I'm not deluged with calls from people who have not read the book and assume it is a Clinton hit job. For the general readers, I suggest that you do not judge a book by its cover, its title, or its publisher. Simply read the first few pages on Chapter one and I think you'll agree that this is the first comprehensive (and to my mind, fair-minded) book on the history of bin Laden's war on America in the Clinton years.
Rating: Summary: I know one lie in this book Review: The author claims "How the Predator spy plane-which spotted bin Laden three times-was grounded by bureaucratic infighting." I *work* on the Predator. It was never deployed anywhere near Afghanistan before 9-11. Heck the rest of the book could be true, but he lost me with something that I know is wrong. He shouldn't lie in public, because someone will always call you out. (In all fairness he could just have a bad source, but that doesn't improve his credibility by much.)
Rating: Summary: As far as the truth in this book Review: Well, I know that if you want backing proof that Clinton did have a chance to get Bin-Laden from Sudan during his presedency, and failed. Then you don't have to go any further than the Horses mouth, research on the web and you will find a audio clip of the former President admitting that very fact, so when I get confirmation like that, then I tend to believe what is said.
Rating: Summary: Could this be a paid political ad in disguise of a book? Review: Obviously written by a biased, untrained researcher with a blatant disregard for integrity in journalism. Blames everything under the sun on Clinton, while ignoring Bush, Sr.'s prior adminstration's failings and tie-ins, and conveniently fails to mention, four years and hundreds of billions of dollars later, the utter failure of the current Bush administration to bring Bin Laden to justice even now! It was a waste of my time! BTW, the unabridged MP3 CD version is narrated as if the fellow wants a shot at Rush Limbaugh's job... skip it and keep looking for a real history tome on the subject!
Rating: Summary: A Weak Excuse to further a Political Agenda Review: Miniter mixes a pre-set political agenda with a poor grasp of the facts. So much of this books is at odds with CIA documents and Congressional Inquiries that it should be dismissed as something written by another Couler or Limbaugh - lacking fact and sense.
Rating: Summary: The facts that can't be spun away Review: This book is very disturbing because it points to so many opportunities to capture bin Laden at the time he was preparing for 9/11. While it is easy to see in retrospect that a monster was created by Jimmy Carter and Zvigniew Brezynski when they instigated the religious fanatics and started the Mujahadeen in 1979, to draw the Soviet Union into invading Afghanistan. (Or as Brezynski said "to create a few stirred up Muslims" to start a Soviet "Viet Nam" in his infamous interview with Le Nouvel Observateur in 1998) or also how they assisted the mullahs to depose the Shah of Iran, and emboldened the rise of Islamofascism. But we didn't know for sure what would happen. It was a throw of the dice, but a very loaded pair of dice at that. Combine that with Reagan's cutting and running from Beirut after the murder of over 200 marines, and the funding of cesspools of hate in thousands of madrassas all over the world by the Saudis and their Wahabbi brand of Islam, you had a perfect storm brewing for a critical juncture where Islamic fanatics could develop their fantasies of ending Western civilization as we know it. But the one person who was in a position to actually do something about eradicating this menace before it achieved critical mass did nothing. All of the information came together on Clinton's shift, and he chose to dismiss it and dissemble, at the cost of thousands of American lives. This book has many interesting facts, including many obtained from Richard Clark, back when he had a very different opinion of his old boss before he flip flopped to make a fortune attacking Bush. Combine this book with the information we now have about Commissioner Gorelick's edict that the Justice department could not work to connect dots with the intelligence agencies, and you have a recipe for disaster. And that disaster was planned on Bill Clinton's watch. I can see that the Bush haters have been hard at work in ginning up reviews of a book they have never read, but this book is well worth buying for anyone who is interested in what really happened "While Clinton Slept" either with Monica or anyone else. For someone who was so concerned about his legacy, you would have thought he would have studied a little history instead of living by the poll numbers. We now will have to suffer the consequences for many years to come. Miniter has done a great job of letting us know just how and why it happened. This is a presidency that will live in infamy. And it was all so unnecessary.
