Rating: Summary: CCM - Concise and Exemplary, yet Dry Review: Co-authored by experts in the field, this is *the* definitive text. Every classification and sub-classification on the three types of crimes covered [Homicide, Sexual Assault and Arson] includes a case example.
Unfortunately, Douglas et alis are as detached as possible, so it does read like a reference text. If you're looking for something more inviting, try _Mindhunter_ or _Whoever Fights Monsters_
Rating: Summary: Technical, not for light reading Review: I am studying forensic psychology and this book has been insightful and helpful. I have read everything john douglas has written and this is just perfect, precise, and organized in every way. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Technical, not for light reading Review: I cannot believe that John Douglas was head of the FBI's BSU until I remember that those FBI folks have absolutely no experience or knowledge of homicide or criminal investigation. The sections on crime scene staging appear to have been written by children. Try throwing in a corrupt exchange between organized crime and a district judge that involves a convenient murder in exchange for the judge's "insider" tips. The FBI has jurisdiction over judicial corruption. However, to create a mole the crime scene staging must be successful. Bet they would blow it! Probably, a rank amature could solve the case though.

Rating: Summary: Not Too Technical Review: I think this book is such a wonderful resource. As someone who is in school studying to work in Forensics this was a great book to read. It was not too technical and I would recommend this to anyone in law enforment, anyone who wants to some day work in law enforcement or anyone interested in learning from the masters.
Rating: Summary: The CCM - A Lexicon of Violent Criminal Behavior Review: I vivedly recall a late night work session in the Kitchen of Dr.'s Ann and Allen Burgess back the early 1980's. John Douglas and I were staying at the Burgess residence and working on the final drafts of SEXUAL HOMICIDE. There was a half empty (or half full) bottle of Scotch in the center of the table and we wondered why the field of criminology did not have a manual such as the mental health field's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Certainly such a manual was needed with the rise of violent crime since the mid sixties. As the bottle of Scotch dropped to a near bottom level, a rough outline began to develop of what is now known as the Crime Classification Manual. The project did not stop there but went on for some ten years, tapping on some of the most talented people in the fields of criminology, law, law enforcement, mental health, and related fields of the forensic sciences. The CCM is in it's first volume and I would hope that it will be carried on to many more volumes as the knowledge of the depths of violent crime expands. Keep in mind that it is a manual, not a novel but it can be of interest to all who are advid readers of true crime as well as professionals in the field of criminology
