Summary: Should be compulsory reading!
Review: I am more-or-less a libertarian, but if I had the power this is one of the small number of books I would make compulsory reading. A truly chilling warning - America elected this dreadful creature who threw away so much of President's Reagan's victory in the Cold War and brought the greatest office in the world into ridicule and disrepute, who let down America's defences just in time for the terrorist onslaught, and whose mental limitations are as terrifying as the essential baseness of his personality is disgusting, married to a woman in some ways even more grotesquely repulsive than himself. A liar, an irresponsible, incompetent fool, a sleazebag and a lot worse. It happened once that such an apalling person could be elected and re-elected, in the decadent days before 9/11, and it could happen again. This book lays out the facts in horrible, unanswerable and truely frightening detail. It may leave you depressed about democracy, but, I hope, determined to defend it.

Summary: "thou much was taken, much abides"
Review: Lowry's focus is on principally three areas, the policy legacy, the legacy of scandal and the legacy of international affairs. On the policy front Clinton exagerrated the economic slowdown bequeathed to him, and oversold the economic boom. Still, Lowry concedes he avoided many of the traditional liberal signals that often make for a nervous market. Lowry's description of the Administration attempt at a socio-sexual revolution in the military is worth the price of the book, as is the description of the health care monolith that the Administration tried to impose. On the scandal side, Lowry focuses on fund-raising and Lewinsky. I wish he had spent more time on the last-minute pardon, since there is comparatively less in the public record on that event. In international relations, the legacy was one of missed opportunities. It was a legacy, in Lowry's view, that left us ill-prepared. The Administration, he claims, simply failed to appreciate and respond to the signals before it: the first bombing of the WTC, Somalia, Khobar, the USS Cole and others. In this area, Lowry case is weakest. Not because he is wrong necessarily, but because the focus on any one Administration, and any one branch of the government is simply not sufficiently complete. Exactly why we were not better prepared will not so easily be resolved. The roots of that problem transcend any one Administration. In that respect both Lowry and Clarke, in Against All Enemies, ought to be read, but neither should be viewed as the last word.

Summary: Oh Yeah....
Review: It's ALL Clinton's fault.....that's what those knee-jerk, cookie-cutter, 'I'll be loyal to Dubya because I've got my head majorly up my a$$' Republicans would like anybody as stupid as they are to believe. That's right: it's Clinton's fault that we're at war over a pack of lies, that the profits from American's deaths are parlayed to Dubya's cronies, etc. If you believe this garbage, I've got bottles of fingernail polish that have a higher I.Q. than you. George W. is the single most destructive American EVER.

Summary: Right Wing Lies
Review: When will the Republicans ever get over the fact that Clinton was a brilliant, effective president who stod above partisan politics to support middle-of-the-road initiatives in order to improve our country?
I believe I read this with an open mind--but it's so full of parrtisan drivel and outright lies, that it is an embarrassment to its author.

Don't waste your time on this one.

Summary: short n sweet
Review: A book composed exquisitely yet unmistakenly full of lies. I certainly would not recommend it.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Doesn't Point enough fingers
Review: Well this book while very revealing only points the finger at Clinton and not all those involved. The book is divided into sections Politics and Policy, Scandal and Law and Foreign Policy.

I could not believe that Clinton ran his presidency on the basis of opinion polls. He was elected to rule not follow the feelings of public sentiment. I think that the people should get their money back from his eight years because we seem to have decided all the issues. This was not leadership at all. His policy not to meet with the head of the CIA because he wanted to focus only domestic policy his first years in office was ridiculious. I was not surprised to find out that Hillary needed to give approval but I didn't know how much she hated all white males and that they are all evil. I espically liked the line she used when asked what to do for white males. She said "Screw 'em!!!"

In the scandal and law section I could not believe all the lawsuits that this guy got in. I didn't realize Clinton got the state police to get him girls. The book really emphasises the adultry thing when I think that is minor compared to his getting illegal foreign money to pay for his campaign in '96. The only reason he settled with Jennifer Flowers was because he lied under oath and was caught with Monica.

The other part of the Law section dealt with Janet Reno the bunny queen. She was so unqualified for this job having no federal experience and just made it because Hillary said they needed a woman. She was all about saving children and making sure no ones rights were infringed upon espically if you're a friend of the White House. The plans that she fought on immigration show that she was clueless.

In the foreign policy section Clinton seemed very naive. He thought every one wanted to work together in harmony. He trusted Arafat and it revialized him and made Clinton look like a fool. He didn't do a thing when 800,000 were killed in Rwanda but he was Africa's friend. In Somilia he tried to build a nation but got shot at and ran away. He gave away a plethora of technology to American enemies to line his pockets.

The shows the most in the final chapter where they tell what he is doing now. He is getting as many speaking enagements for as much money as possible.

Overall the book was interesting but it was pretty right-wing if you're a Clinton lover you won't like it. If you can handle that then book's strongest part is the information on foreign policy.

Summary: a great read
Review: a book on the Clinton years well worth reading. Sad but true.

Summary: A variation of he said - she said
Review: When speaking of history and politics, the argument will always be one of perspective. In American politics, the reader hopes for a middle-ground analysis but will oftentimes receive an argument from either the Left or the Right. If you are not certain whether this text is from the right, then note that the author is the editor for National Review, and the book has praise from William F. Buckley Jr., Peggy Noonan, Michael Barone, and Rush Limbaugh.

Does this mean the book is biased? Given that all books have some bias, yes. This does not, however, mean the book is without merit. A lot of research went into the text, and some of the material is taken from interviews and books by members of the Clinton team. The information does look at errors of the Clinton legacy, which shows that the Clinton White House made mistakes. I don't think any White House will be error free, which leads to the question of whether some of the claims are mere "armchair quarterback" remarks.

The main premise, in my opinion, is that Clinton's need to be liked caused a scandal to the office of the president and caused the laxity in our intelligence services, which led to the current trouble with terrorism. The author does acknowledge that Republicans have a hand in this also.

Also, rather than taking a neutral stance, Lowry does have a very aggressive tone. Although not a Republican, I thought he made some good points, even though his tone is a bit aggravating.

Lowry does highlight that people became obsessed with the sexual transgressions and acknowledges that this did distract. As he pointed out, this is not uncommon in America. He also highlights that the Republicans weren't always right, which I think adds some power to his argument. Again, if his tone was more neutral, the argument would be more effective.

I would recommend this book to Democrats, Republicans, and independents. There is nothing wrong with exposing your mind to the other side's argument.

Summary: Exposing the harm of Slick Willy
Review: If you need solid evidence of liberalism destroying our great nation, read this book! More proof that we MUST keep Hillary out of the White House.

Summary: Star system, Schmar system ...
Review: This star rating system is really perverse.

So like Julie Ann Nolan, NY,NY, who also didn't read the book, I am rating the book and I give it 5 stars so our two reviews kind of average out. Due to Ehlerman's insightful review, 3 stars, I am buying this book and will post a review again once read, since Ehlerman's review is posted twice and thus also lower's the average.

I suggest amazon have a "proof of Purchase" seal on it's book reviews, and as a capitalist, it would be fine with me if it had to be from amazon.com purchase.

This star system is a thin joke for padding book ratings. It is a forum for unthinking idealogues who should find honest work and make a contribution. They spend way too much time online, thus becoming leaches on the neck of humanity.
