Rating: Summary: A delightful reference with relentless logic Review: Sowell's book is to leftists as garlic is to vampires. While at times lapsing into some of the vilification he ascribes to leftists (calling the lefties "anointed" becomes a bit tiresome after a while), he erodes the excuses of the apologists for failed social and economic policy as doggedly and relentlessly as pit bull. Reading this book was like watching time lapse photography of a sinkhole consuming a house. A truly fine effort in a series of superb books.
Rating: Summary: A Political Science Education in one volume Review: By one of the greatest thinkers in America today, The Vision of the Anointed speaks the truth and places the blame for todays messed up society squarely where it belongs - on the shoulders of liberals and their desire to control our lives with bigger and bigger government "solutions" to society's problems. The truth hurts, and liberals will hate this book with a passion. I wore out my highliter on this book
Rating: Summary: It is about time. Review: Spectacular book that reveals the sham argumentation that passes as critical thought. Dr. Sowell does a splendid job of dissecting the vague terminology and psuedo-intellectual discourse that clouds minds and even ruins lives. It is only a shame that one cannot argue and think like Sowell outlines without getting himself blackballed from the public arena. A person would do well to give a copy of this book to anyone about to enter college or congress
Rating: Summary: Sowell's "Vision" Is Subtle Yet Penetrating Review: I am a strong political conservative, but not a fervent book-reader. I prefer to occupy my reading time with magazine articles and newspaper columns. But upon hearing the sweeping word that Dr. Thomas Sowell's book "The Vision of the Anointed" is a dead-on indictment of the American Left, I picked up a copy and dug in. Sowell's immense intelligence is the first evidence presented, and quite a few paragraphs took two or three readings for complete understanding. But Sowell presents an undeniable, cold-eyed, no-nonsense case that cleverly snakes into the heart of the silly philosophy and attitudes of leftists, and explodes them. Sowell's critique is subtle, yet very penetrating. He doesn't just throw up his arms and launch a "This is silly!" attack, but systematically dismantles the arguments and angles that have originated from liberals and leftists for decades.
I must say, it is about time that "The Vision of the Anointed" was finally written by somebody. The leftist
philosophy has needed detonating for a long time, and Sowell is the perfect man to do it, with a deliciously
subtle, often humorous - but mostly comprehensive and intelligent - argument technique.

Rating: Summary: A Real Howler
Review: Of all the silly books that Thomas Sowell has written,
this one tops the list! Sowell contrasts "the anointed"
aka Liberals with "the benighted" aka Conservatives who
have "the tragic vision." While Sowell has a point when
he attacks Liberals as a smug, self-congratulatory bunch,
he fails to see that this afflication is by no means
confined to the left end of the political spectrum.
The
only comparable book to this that I'm aware of is Paul Johnson's Intellectuals - where Mad Paul digs up Marx's
bastard son and blames Sartre for Pol Pot's atrocities.
I give both books a 10 for humor!
Rating: Summary: Sowell slams the liberal dogma of the 60's through today Review: I absolutely loved this book. Sowell's powerful intellect, vast statistical analysis, and biting sarcasm are combined to destroy the liberal belief that a chosen few can, with enough legislative power, create and maintain a Utopian-like society. He is truly one of the great conservative thinkers of our time. This book should be read by anyone, either liberal or conservative, who is interested in politics
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: The political left perseveres not so
much because they believe they are right, as much as they believe their opponents are
truly evil. Against such determined opposition, Dr. Sowell
argues, politicians and those who seek to influence
public policy need to go into battle prepared. This book is
a superb and informative read, in the usual Sowell tradition. I highly
recommend it to conservative elected officials and policy-makers, who
find themselves all-too-often on the losing end of
debates with opponents on the left. Paul J. Walkowski, Co-Author, "From Trial Court to the United States Supreme Court"
Rating: Summary: Dr. Sowell's vibrant analysis of the 60s failed policies Review: Dr. Sowell again shows why he is on the cutting edge of conservative political and social policy analysis. Dr. Sowell rejects the elite with examples of the successes of the 80s, rejection of the public school system as a tool to further elitist policies on "sexual education," and the failures of the great society. I wonder if the annointed in our nation would reconsider the follies that they are so often pushing (but which are often responsible for creating more problems)... these individuals would be wise to peruse the pages of a few of Dr. Sowell's books.
Rating: Summary: A VERY THOUGHTFUL READ Review: It is all very nice how Thomas Sowell presents liberal beliefs, as if the convictions of hundreds of millions of primitive talking apes actually had their foundations in time consuming, diligent reasoning in all cases. And he does an extremely good job at this; giving the enemy their due respect. But in my opinion it all comes down to the fact that in the vast majority of cases, that there simply is no complicated reasoning, no grandiose conclusions by the legions of the parroting left - but that they have simply split the world up into two different football teams based on white or non-white race and, of course, they are the fans of the non-white race. Of course, like any other people who are hated and despised and who always have their best intentions met by hatred and disgust, we are befuddled; and try to seek some sort of logical reason from our Maker or from within ourselves. As Thomas Sowell seeks. But the sad fact is, that you can have collection accounts older than most people's grown children, and drive a car that is twenty years old; that you can have been passed over for promotions in favor of women and minorities a thousand times, and that you can have never known a day without the affirmative racist's whip on your back. But that still just the sight of your features can fill a certain type of man with an instantly recognizable burning jealousy; a man of a different sort of ethnicity, a man driving the latest model jaguar, a man who lives in the richest neighborhood in the world, jealous of you, some wretch! The insanity of this goes beyond words. Yet still, that certain set of features, that high forehead, that white skin and dexterous hands, which guarantees that no matter where on earth you go; you will generally be welcomed with friendliness, trust, open arms and a sense of gladness. And for that other certain sort of man, that no matter where he goes or how much money he has, that the cash boxes will be slammed shut and ordinary people will be consumed with fear. Because despite the lies of the ethnically possessed, ordinary people on sight can still tell the difference between a rabbit and a wolf! Am I saying that this prejudice is OK? No, just that it is instinctual. And that the way for it to stop, is as Thomas Sowell says, not some grandiose governmental domination, but rather that once there are actually people who have been raised in a world where they are no longer constantly subjected to brutality, robbery and mortal terror, always from a certain looking sort of man, that this instinctual prejudice will disappear of its own accord! As even the dumbest among us can still spot a 'rabbit' even from the youngest of ages. If there was not a single minority in our prisons and every minority we had ever met was the humblest hardest worker, despite their cash difficulties. Then our office men and women would have to be insane not to hire them! Unfortunately, this is clearly and patently not the case in this hellish world of murderous brutality.
Rating: Summary: Just Read The Book Review: I have read many of these so called "reviews" and I am convinced only half of them have read the book - the others, a synopsis. Just read the book, and please research any doubt one might have about high interest rates not being the result of President Carter and liberalism. The reviewer who tried to blur this fact to "early '80's" really needs to read the book! ... And research some history!!!!!!!
