Summary: Contains Very General Information Only, Not User-Friendly
Review: For the 1995-2001 Range Rover (P38A) owner hoping to perform their own service, this book provides only cursory guidance. The P38A was intentionally designed to be serviced by Land Rover trained personnel using proprietary equipment and this book seems intended as a series of reminders for those people. As a result, the information is not presented in an explicit and detailed fashion. Illustrations are plentiful but certainly not exhaustive. This book suffers from usability problems: it lacks an index, there are numerous editing errors that fail to properly capture model year changes, and the cumbersome layout is printed two pages per sheet and rotated 90 degrees. If your goal is to learn a bit more about the features and function of your P38A and/or to have an intelligent conversation with a Land Rover Authorized mechanic, than you are less likely to be disappointed. The steep $104 price is hardly justified by the material but if you can afford to own and maintain one of these fantastic vehicles, the price is probably not an issue.

Summary: Good shop manual
Review: I use my copy of this manual all the time -- I find it a hundred percent better and more convenient than the cheap CD versions. As with any modern hi tech vehicle, people expecting the basic shop manual to cover such things as electronic troubleshooting and computer diagnostics will be disappointed. (There is a separate Electrical Troubleshooting Manual). However for complete coverage of general maintenance, engine, body, mechanical and other work this is the one to have. It explains such systems as the air suspension in considerable detail, and tells you how to remove and replace almost any part on the vehicle. While it cannot make you completely independent of the dealer it has tons of diagrams and is very comprehensive. It easily pays for itself the first time you fix something yourself!!
