Rating: Summary: A book for anyone at every age Review: I read this book for the first time in fourth grade. I have returned to this beautifully written story, or one of the other L'Engle books about Meg's family, every few years. I'm always transported. A book I will read to my children in the hopes that they will read it to theirs.
Rating: Summary: Beauty in symbolism Review: The site description says 'A Wrinkle in Time' is a kids' book, but trully you can't enjoy the vast depths of symbolism and religious undertones unless you read it as an adult. I was moved to tears over the writter's commentary about mind- body dualism. -We must realize we are spiritual beings resist Evil, whose job is to make us think we are but mortal zombies! Beautiful, beautiful. Anyone with a thirst for wisdom MUST read this book, and the rest in the series!
Rating: Summary: Finally Review: After many years of hearing praise I finally sat down and read this book. Though I did enjoy it I felt that I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it when I was younger. Though there is much mastery shown in this story I found it slightly simplistic in form.
Rating: Summary: A classic for all ages Review: Can I give this book 5 and a half stars? It has been my favourite book for six years, since I was 11. You just don't grow out of it. "A Wrinkle in Time" is so much more than a science fiction novel. Instead of focusing on detailed scientific explanations, this book uses beautiful language to tell an exciting story and develop memorable characters. Meg is such a change from the typical protagonist of preteen literature - she doesn't fit in, has few friends and low self-esteem, but she captures you with her honesty and her love for her brother and her father. This book is religious without being preachy; its about love more than anything else. You must read this book!
Rating: Summary: A Book You Can Not Stop Reading-J.K.C. Review: I think this book was a wonderful adventure book. The main characters are a girl named Meg, her little brother Charles, her friend Calvin and three stars Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. Meg's father was studying fifth dimension of time travel and disappeared. Meg, Calvin, Charles, and the three stars must save Meg's father before he is gone forever.I like this book and I think others will too.
Rating: Summary: One of my childhood favorites Review: Madeleine L'Engle has quite an imagination and it translates well into "A Wrinkle in Time."I remember reading this book while I was in the fourth grade, staying home from school and pretending to be sick so that I wouldn't have to put it down. It was so nice to have my mother's scrambled eggs and hot tea while I devoured this book. For bright children with brighter minds, this book will have your seeing the world, indeed the universe, in a whole new way.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I'm in a 6th Grade gifted class and everyone I know has read, liked and appreciated Madeline L'Engle's books. Theyre not boring, they're interesting and get you really caught up in it. I've read A Wrinkle in Time half dozen times and A Swiftly Tilting Planet two or three - which was assigned to me in an advanced reading/writing course I took over the summer by JHU. In a nutshell, the books are complicated and exciting and they were somewhat of a challenge to read. Unless you or your child can't read on a mature level yet, I think everyone should try these books out as they really make you think. =)
Rating: Summary: A love from 4th grade Review: This book was read to me in school during 4th grade, and I've loved it ever since. The main characters are Meg Murray, Calvin O'Keefe, and Charles Wallace, Meg's little brother. The story is told mainly by Meg's point of view. She is the "unlucky" and "stubborn" girl who hates her looks and everything else about herself. She also has to look out for Charles Wallace, who is much smarter than he should be for a 4-year-old. But when they meet up with Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which, along with Calvin O'Keefe, they're sure to discover what happened to their missing father, and how to save our own planet from becoming surrounded by dark shadows. A wonderful adventure of space travel using the 5th dimension - a tesseract!
Rating: Summary: I read this book twice, 35 years apart! Review: I first read this book as a 10 year old. All I could remember about the story was that it was so good that I stayed up all night to finish it. Now 35 years later I purchased this book for my 10 year old son. We both enjoyed the book every bit as much as I did as a child.
Rating: Summary: So Much More (than the average book) Review: A Wrinkle in Time is substantially better than an average science fiction book. It has something more: mystery, suspense, imagination, sadness, horror and a rich substance that creates a wonderful book. When Meg's father suddenly disappears while he is experimenting with the fifth dimension many think he is dead, but the Murrys still have hope. Meg and Charles Wallaces' father's disappearance creates the sadness in the story. Meg's mother and twin brothers, Sandy and Dennys, miss Mr. Murry just as much, if not more than Meg and Charles Wallace. Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin bring the story substance. By tessering and opening our minds to the fifth dimension Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Whatsit make our imaginations stretch farther than they have ever gone before. When the heroic trio, Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin, become weak after tessering through the 'black thing' they take rest on many different planets. With all the fabulous characters and places A Wrinkle In Time is so much more than many other books of the same context.
