Summary: Don't Get Taken Every Time: The Ultimate Guide to Buying or
Review: ...I spent 16 years in the car business both as a factory representative and as part owner of a dealership. When people find this out they ask how to get the best deal on a vehicle purchase. I tell them to read "Don't Get Taken Every Time."... if I had read this book when I was in the automobile business and knew that it was out there and accessable to the average car buyer, it would have frightened me. Indeed, you will probably never see this book reviewed in your local newspaper or in most other media because they depend so much on dealer advertising that most are afraid of what might happen to their advertising revenues if they publicized this book. ... Remar Sutton's book can give you the preparation that it takes to even the playing field and take control of the buying situation. Back in my days in the business I have been in the exact situation that Killer and his manager experience in Chapter 10 when they confront a car buying couple who have done their homework. The only thing that a dealer can do in this situation is make a modest profit as opposed to nothing and move on to the next customer. I will admit that some of Suton's stories of Killer and the American Family Friends dealership chain are a little extreme and not typical of every dealership, but most people would be surprised to know how close to the truth these seeming fanciful tales are. Sit back and enjoy the stories as you learn the underlying basic principals of being a smart car buyer. This book will not only save you money; it has the potential to make buying your next vehicle fun!

Summary: If I could give zero stars, I would.
Review: Absolutely the largest waste of time I've read. Yeah, all car dealers are scum. Sure, we know this already. The continued creation and over exageration of fear should help this book sell well. I was looking for ways to improve the internet business in my dealeship; perhaps understanding what one side feels helps the other side be better at his business. Read "Cars and People; How to Put the Two Together" if you need help understanding the automotvie sales business. That's our "how to" book.

Summary: Nice details
Review: Great book. Fits my previous experiences. You can tell by the care give to the writing and the amount of careful details in the book that the author know of what he speaks.

Summary: Use it EVERY time I buy a car ...
Review: I (re)read this book (latest edition) before every new car I buy, which has paid off handsomely on each occasion. Without a doubt the car sales people use every one of the tricks Mr. Sutton describes in his book and then some. I highly recommend this book and encourage you to only hand over a 'copy' of the keys to your trade-in lest you spend the afternoon waiting for the sales person to find your lost keys.

Summary: How The Game Is Really Played
Review: I looked at a number of automotive buying books before selecting this one. I give the book 5+ stars for overall readibility and a superb content presentation. The author takes you through the (we only wish) fictional days of a car salesman affectionately named "Killer Monsoon." Killer knows how to manipulate and steal at every opportunity. The author points out strategies of the car salesman and dealership to confuse, trick, manipulate, and steal from customers. It also talks at length at how just giving the dealership your drivers license for a test drive allows them access to matches in their vast databases and your credit information. It's enough to make you think twice about even test driving a car knowing you're credit has been reviewed (without your knowledge) before you even open the door.

A fascinating read for insight into the mind of the salesman and required reading if you are even remotely considering engaging in a transaction involving a car.

Summary: I'M A BELIEVER THROUGH EXPERIENCE--IT WORKS!
Review: I read, marked, and followed the suggestions in this book. I entered the sales office with confidence about a half hour before closing time. They tried all the tactics and I was always ahead of them. (After reading I was ready for bear.) I came out with the money in my pocket, and a super used car. Females, don't underestimate your gender. With the strategy and formulas in this book, you too can be a winner! I have passed my book onto others, they passed it back and bought their own. They wanted to mark up and dog ear their own. It's powerful and so informative!

Summary: The title is ironic
Review: I'm about to buy a new car, and bought and read this book. I was very disappointed, most of the book is hyperactive fiction, I wanted hard facts about true dealer cost and buyer's negotiating tactics. Instead, the hard data is far and few between in this book. After buying "Don't Get Taken Every Time" I felt that I had been taken by the publishing business. Not recommended.

Summary: Simply awful
Review: If I really wanted to know how evil car dealers were, I would simply walk into a dealership! Every page I turned in this book painted car dealers like Satanic worshipers looking for their next sacrificial victims to walk in, and painted car buyers like poor suckers who get stuck everytime.

I was just looking for some explanation for the math used in calculating a lease, to give me a negotiating advantage but unfortunately chapter 16 (it took that long) did not deliver. If you are already aware of edmunds.com and kbb.com, do not waste your money on this book!! You are already more savvy than this book. Thank you Amazon.com for taking it back. Yuck!!!

Summary: The Best Offense is a Good Defense
Review: If you are thinking about buying a new car, you must read and study this book. It goes into great detail by informing you how to prepare for attacking a salesman on his own turf, and then shows how to counter whatever he says in order to get yourself the very best deal when it is time to negotiate. There is no doubt that I'll save hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars the next time I buy a new car. Thank you for giving me the ammunition to help me come out on top. I shudder to think of all the money I lost on my previous purchases, but that will never happen again. It took a lot of guts for the author to expose the secrets of greedy car dealers, and if it were within my power, I'd gladly recommend him for the Pulitzer Prize.
