Rating: Summary: Brilliant Dose of Common Sense Review: Larry Elders explains why our thoughts and actions, not appearance are ultimately the thing that determines our future. For this he is called an 'Uncle Tom'. He talks about things like crime, drugs, the 70% illigitimacy rate in black society, not racism, being their biggest obstacle in America. That many of African Americans wounds are self inflicted. For that he is called a 'House Negro'. He tells us how black leaders and condescending liberals continually program hopelessness and racism into African Americans, poisoning them with negativity and hatred. For that he is called an 'Oreo'. A perfect companion to Horowitz' 'Hating Whitey' or Linda Chavez' 'An Unlikely Conservative' this book is, if anything a tome on the power of positive thinking, hard work and optimism. It is a great book. Probably the most accurate book on race in America ever written.
Rating: Summary: Uncle Tom's Book Review: Larry elder is a House Negro. Of course all you closet racists loved this book; it caters to all your deeply harbored beliefs. Blacks are more racist than whites? Isn't that a racist comment? Hmm... Think about it. This book is filled with as much double-talk and empty rhetoric as any speech made by the people he calls out.
Rating: Summary: Great Book: Attacks False Assumptions/ Liberal Brainwashing Review: What a great book! Larry Elder conveys the truth in this controversial book. He attacks the general assumptions of everyday life that the liberal media conveys to the public. Mr. Elder barrages the reader with one fact after another that prove his ten points. He brings facts that Democrats hid because of their groundbreaking truth. The most interesting aspect of the book is his depicition of blacks as more racsist than whites and how all Republicans are seen as "white bigots." In this section, he shows how several segregational actions in the free rights movement were done by Democrats. Schools blocked by democrats, laws passed by Democrats, and so on. He continues with several key polls and facts taken by credible sources. And this is just one of ten sections! I highly stress you read this book and seek the true truth. VIVA BUSH 2004!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great insights... Review: I just finished reading this book and found myself agreeing with a lot of what Mr. Elder says. I imagine he takes a lot of flak from different groups for his message, but I admire him for speaking up for common sense.
Rating: Summary: Larry Elder is not a libertarian Review: Although I am in the middle of this book, I am well versed in Elder's views, and I would like to point out that he is not a libertarian. Libertarians are anarchists who want no government, whereas Elder thinks that (and correctly so) that government's only function is to protect the rights of it's citizens. It's a difference between a small government and no government, but it's a huge one nonetheless. I am writing this in the hopes that people who are intrigued with his views won't lump him together with views he doesn't support. As for the book, as I said, I'm only half way through it, but he's definately on to something: the truth.
Rating: Summary: Please Keep Writing Review: I am not even done with the first chapter of this book and I already love the way Elder writes. His no-nonsense style and take-no-prisoners attitude are rare fora black person. We need many more famous people with the courage to slay sacred cows like Elder.
Rating: Summary: Government Review: I thought this book was a really good book. Larry points out all the issues that are occuring in the world today that we can't talk about in the world today. He talks about all the main issues that occuring todsay such as illigitimacy, gun-control and how it has been gettin out of hand, and some other issues. I would highly recommend someone to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Conservative Disguised as a Libertarian Review: I originally chose this book to get another viewpoint on certain issues that plague America. I was under the impression that Mr. Elder was a Libertarian, but found that he is more of a right-winger than he lets on. The book does present some thought provoking arguments on racial issues, the free enterprise system, and taxes, but I found that the more I read, the more I believed that he has never met a liberal that was correct on any issue, nor has he met a conservative that was wrong. Like most conservatives, he seems to approach issues as having only a right or wrong answer with little middle ground. For the most part, this seemed like more of the same old B.S. sales pitch of the political conservatives (ironically named since there isn't much they want to conserve). It does, however, serve to balance out the same old B.S. sales pitch of the political liberals. His fellow conservatives will be lining up to cannonize him, while liberals will want to point the cannons at him. Overall, a cynic like me will find this a pretty mediocre effort.
Rating: Summary: The Government is the one on Welfare Review: I agree with mostly everything on this book except for his views on Maternity Leave. We're way on our way to becoming socialist and our government thinks they have the recipe figured out; (uhm! lets see, 40% take away from the people and regulate, 60% free market, that sounds just about the right combination) <:-0. Some facts were not backed up as they could have been, but overall, he makes almost all of his points convincingly. Responsibility and accountablility are the root of progress, not paternalism.
Rating: Summary: Not Aggressive Enough Review: He should have bashed the following: 1. There is no other way to get equality except through quotas. Otherwise people will think that we have made progress because they can personally count diversity on their figures. 2. American as a Christian society forcing their beliefs on others and how it gets incorporated into the legal system to supress others. 3. The fallacy that justice exists in the court system. Only law does. Otherwsie, it was a great book.
