Rating: Summary: What Larry Elder Really Cares About Review: The only thing Mr. Elder really cares about is himself. While he is a very articulate voice for many good and important ideas, his self-righteous, pompous, ego-driven attitude interferes with any sense of balance and human compassion and make him and his intellect, sadly, less valuable than they otherwise could be. In time, with a little mellowing and some self-reflection, his books and his voice will add great value to our society.
Rating: Summary: He's not an extremist...he just has plain old common sense! Review: I am thoroughly enjoying this book. Every American should read it. He exposes hypocrisy and simply shines the light of truth on several "controversial" subjects. I wish he'd run for President on the Libertarian ticket. I'd vote for him in a second!
Rating: Summary: Never before has a writer so paralleled my own thoughts Review: Mr. Elder cuts through the obscurity of inter-racial politics and relations and exposes the confounding factors that so substantially inhibit our society. He also provides a vivid blue print for any one to be successful in our country. With out a doubt this work will be remember as voice of truth in a time when the majority of our society is greatly miss lead. Thank you Mr. Elder
Rating: Summary: NOT FOR THE POLITCALLY SQUEAMISH Review: An excellent read for anyone who likes to think for themselves. Mr. Elder's arguements are lucid, coherent and well-supported by published facts. Mr. Elder deserves a great deal of respect for this effort, if for no other reason than it flies directly in the face of conventional pseudo-wisdom and establishes a foundation for very interesting and important discussions on race, equality, education and government spending. For a laugh, give this book as a gift to your most liberal friends, and challenge them to refute Mr. Elder's positions with the same clarity and logic that he so admirably demonstrates.
Rating: Summary: This book rocks! Review: As a Libertarian and individualist, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Elder tells it like it is...I don't agree with him on everything, such as NAFTA, but he's knows what he's talking about. This guy is 10X better than Rush, 100X better than that windbag O'Reilly. All liberals and so called "conservative" Republicans: read this book and clean up your acts!
Rating: Summary: FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO MAKES SENSE Review: IT IS REFRESHING TO HEAR IDEAS THAT NOT ONLY MAKE SENSE, BUT ARE SUPPORTED WITH FACTS-NOT EMOTIONAL, DO-GOOD RHETORIC. THIS BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN AND THOUGHT OUT. IT WAS ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL AT THE SAME TIME. LARRY ELDER SAYS WHAT WE ARE ALL REALLY THINKING, BUT TOO POLITICALLY CORRECT TO SAY SO! LARRY ELDER FOR PRESIDENT! OR AT LEAST MAYOR OF SAN FRANCISCO!!
Rating: Summary: A shining beacon of hope Review: I'm not a very avid reader, but I was excited to buy and read this book. I had only seen Larry Elder briefly in an interview, but liked what he said. This is a confrontational book. That's not to say that it's nasty, but it will challenge certain people's ideas. I've read all the reviews and it's funny, all the reviews by liberals complained about how "biased" the book was. Did you even read it? He has nasty things to say about Republicans also. I consider myself a conservative, but NOT a Republican. Larry calls himself a Libertarian. It's a little bizarre, but most conservatives would find themselves agreeing with what he says, and libertarians vice versa. I gave the book to my father and he enjoyed it, and he's a HARDCORE, I mean HARDCORE Republican. But I loved the review where the person bashed Larry by saying he only got to where he was with Affirmative Action. That's funny, because even if he got into Yale with affirmative action, how did he manage to eventually graduate? Did they just, let him pass because he's black? No, it's because he's smart and he worked hard. In conclusion, I suppose if you are black and you feel "the white man done me wrong", you'll probably hate the book. But Larry has interesting stories, such as the speech he gave where 3 young, black males wore Malcolm X T-shirts. It's a great and fantastic motivational book, that's right, MOTIVATIONAL. Stop feeling like you're oppressed(and this goes for every race) and go kick some backside in the world!
Rating: Summary: Finally - A Little Common Sense Talk Review: This book is outstanding. Larry Elder presents well thought out, orderly, and statistical valid arguments about many issues which continue to plague our society. When I picked up this book, I was skeptical about an African-American adressing such issues and I found that Mr. Elder is not the "hysterical" person that he portrays in his work. This book made me really think about the effective of our governmental system. This is a must read for anyone interested in the TRUTH about race relations, media bias, and government control of our lives. Mr. Elders hard hiting style is sure to offend many - meaning he has accomplished his goal of challenging our "status quo" way of thinking. Thanks to this book I have finally found my "political home." Anyone who desires to understand real differences in political parties and desire an alternative this book will set you on the right path.
Rating: Summary: A talkshow host's manifesto Review: I listen to this guy on the radio, read the book cover to cover and felt compelled to send in a review. First of all, I'm not going to nitpick the book, though I did find it amusing that he could dismiss the New Deal and the Marshall Plan in a page and a half. Neat trick. One of the overall problems I had with the book is who he seemed to be writing to when writing about race. His intended audience seemed to be white people. Preaching to the choir, if you like. He doesn't write to who clearly, he feels, needs to hear the message. Why is that? Speaking of message, with the exception of his progressive stand on illegal drugs, his answer to everything is libertarian reactionism. His positions are if we could only go back to simpler times and a simpler government. I guess he hasn't read much history! Our awful intrusive government of today evolved over time to deal with problems that our ineffective unobtrusive government was unable to deal with. It is inane to argue that progressive reforms happened out of shear boredom, which is what he seems to imply. Have progressive changes had some unintended negative consequences? You bet. But, like it our not, we are not going all the way back. Why doesn't he try offering a constructive path to the future?
Rating: Summary: This man is amazing. Review: My friend doesn't like him and yes, the book is full of ramblings, but he has very good points in all of them. My favorite was 'How the heck did the Kennedys become America's "royal" family?' Ha ha. =)
