Rating: Summary: People Magnet is cutting edge material for the 21st Century Review: As a person, who is involved in a very ethnically, racially, and educationally diverse community, and also happily employed in the human services profession, I read People Magnet, by Leil Lowndes. I read it for both business and personal reasons, as I am, surprisingly, very shy in my personal life. I finished the book less than two weeks ago and have seen immediate improvements in both my personal and business life; from getting along with people who others in my business circle label as "very difficult" - to closer relationships with the important people in my life. Also, this week, I have been able to ask for and be accepted for a date, with a woman, who I have been wanting to get to know better, but was too shy to ask out for almost a year now! In summary, reading this book has been like participating in the best quality personal presentation seminar. However, I've paid hundreds of dollars to attend such seminars and have not achieved the results that I have already achieved after two reads of Ms. Lowndes' book. Of course, it is a book I will reread again over and over.Ms. Lowndes book is different not only in content from the standard conversational improvement books, but the process of reading the book requires active reader participation and the signing of contracts and clauses throughout the book to engender more commitment. The book is written from the heart and speaks to issues of the growing isolation and alienation that are so real in the year 2001. I have read many of the top ranked books on personality improvement, conversation improvement, etc. by many of the best known authors of today and yesterday, but I found Ms. Lowndes book to be most down to earth, while the facts are supported by research, testimonials, and an extensive bibliography. Most important, this book spoke to the heart. I am buying one copy for the office, one for home, one to carry around with me at all times, and an extra copy to give to someone who I think can use it, as I am so impressed by this book.
Rating: Summary: Draw People To You, Effortlessly & Easily With This Book Review: Get this book NOW if you want more friends and a better love life. I thought this book would be just another self-help book or a bunch of psychobabble. While most books on this subject are like Chinese food... they taste good going down, but two hours later you're hungry again... "People Magnet" surprisingly delivers hardcore substance. One of the qualities I really admire about Lowndes' work is that it's based on scientific findings from industry-respected psych./soc. journals. She is absolutely masterful at taking publications within the scientific community (psychology, sociology and anthropology) and distilling the information into easily understandable material. Plus, "People Magnet" is a fun read. The author has a great sense of humor. -- Highly recommended if you're interested in expanding your circle of friends or brining a whole lot of love into your life.
Rating: Summary: Things I needed to learn Review: God Bless Leil Lowndes! How beautiful she is, in every sense of the word, for bringing forth this piece of work to us from her heart. Her book suffuses such a refreshing sense that we can altogether break from the cycle of cliches associated with the labeling on different groups of society. As diverse as peoples' communications means are today, she gracefully blends tact with compassion in her approach to have a better understanding on human nature and behavior and how we can all not shy away and come to get to know one another. Along with a myriad of examples and topics included, inherent in everyday life, Lowndes also adds a variety of approaches siutable to anyone and everyone, (like a one-size-fits-all technique) and the power of possibility, making it not only easy, but a pleasure to read this book. Thank you, Liel!

Rating: Summary: Excellent Guide Review: I think that Lowndes does an excellent job at identifying those common pitfalls that people often find themselves in over and over again without realizing it. It is a clear roadmap of action to avoid making the same mistakes that everyone, from time to time, does make with others. There is no one that could not benefit from reading this book at least once. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Guide Review: I think that this book is a great tool for people who need to consciously change certain behavioral patterns which are not working for them well enough. Leil Lowndes clearly identifies such common pitfalls that virtually all people run into; there is no one at all who could not benefit from reading this book at least once!
Rating: Summary: This book should be required reading! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Leil Lowndes. Through vivid examples (backed by research studies) and stories from her own fascinating life, she tells the reader HOW to truly be a fantastic friend and HOW to attract & KEEP wonderful people in your life. The book serves as a mirror- it helps you to look at your current patterns, and challenges you to make changes in your life. Leil brings to focus several small elements in life that many people gloss over...by understanding the significance of these details, you can build deeper and more fulfilling friendships. After talking non-stop about how great this book is- I've leant it out to several buddies....they are all huge Leil fans now too! I've also truly enjoyed her other books "Updating" and "How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships."
Rating: Summary: Makes things up Review: Its an easy read and an entertaining book. However, it is hilarious when she talks about "In Japan...mothers will never tell their daughter that what they did was wrong....they just look at them and say 'uh oh...we have a booboo here' or something or the other." I am Japanese, and my mom would smack me upside the top of my head if I did something bad. I wish she would not make stuff up like this. Also, the contracts with ourselves are lame. If anybody saw me making those contracts with myself I would be the laughing stock of Nevada. This is the first "feel good about yourself" book I've read, and probably the last. Once a lifetime is enough...most of the info in there is info that most people have heard from word of mouth sometime in their lives already. Nothing new, and I haven't even read any other similar books!...
