Rating: Summary: Encompassing and insightful read Review: This book isn't for the average reader, since it deals with rather heavy-handed material. That being said, this text was part of a graduate-level course I took on government. While only a few chapters were required reading, I found myself reading the entire thing. Lehne's insights into the historical background of our modern government and policiy as well as his integration of government and economics overseas makes this book unique. After reading it, I have developed a much more profound sense of why our institutions exist, what they do, what they are intended to accomplish, as well as what shortcomings of any governmental system need to be addressed in order to address the increasing globalization of our world. At the very least, this book will make you rethink the role of politics in American society.
