Summary: A magnificent contribution
Review: Shoot The Singer! is a magnificent contribution to the body of literature on the topic of arts-suppression.

Of its many attributes, the book's greatest strength is the multiplicity of voices presented. Considered as a whole, the book is an inspiring compendium of testimony to the important roles music plays in societies around the globe.

I learned much from many of the essays, but found a few particular pieces - those by Marcel Khalife and Rania Elias-Khoury come to mind - to be far beyond merely educational. Though leavened with sadness, their messages are in fact, nothing less than inspirational. In the sense, that is, that these writers so gracefully articulate the challenge mankind faces in confronting (or working around) the censorious traditions and/or trends common to many lands.

Freemuse has, once again, provided the world a fine service. Bravo!
