Rating: Summary: total lack of substance Review: A tired but still commonly used trick-if u cant win the debate slander the opponent. Ann Coulter, O'Reilly, Hannity etc point out the Left's repeated failings (the UN, the Liberal ideology, big government, socialistic programs, handouts, and appeasing tyrants) and point out better alternatives. So the response to this? well hate of course! Whats a liberals defenition of a racist? a conservative thats winning an argument. so if u want to support slander, small minded irrational anger, and the one world view is all anybody should hear vision of the liberal left then buy this book and shut off the higher reasoning functions of your brain.
Rating: Summary: Sorry Review: I hate to do this, but I just think it's freakin' hilarious when you read reviews of anything "political" on Amazon, You don't even have to look at the "star" rating, just read the first sentance; for instance:
"I'd like to start with the final portion of the book. The editor ends with a Timeline of events that put some of today's right wing pundits on the map."
or:
"A tired but still commonly used trick-if u cant win the debate slander the opponent. Ann Coulter, O'Reilly, Hannity etc point out the Left's repeated failings (the UN, the Liberal ideology, big government, socialistic programs, handouts, and appeasing tyrants) and point out better alternatives."
Hmmmmm... One of these people seems to have an education of some sort, and it isn't the person who substitutes the letter "u" for the word "you". Poor editing, uncapitalized words. Terrible.
How else should "lovers" fight the "haters"? Hate, of course. It's the only thing they understand... And that is very sad.
Rating: Summary: Useless Propaganda Review: I hate? The title alone made me think of a two year old that doesn't have an idea of how to articulate what they are truly feeling. This guy wants you to think for yourself and see what the right winged nuts are or are not telling you but now here is someone else giving you his rhetoric his spin on it and now what, you are to take his word for it? But I am not defending the conservatives nor standing up for the liberals because its all a dog and pony show to invite this kind of uncivil behavior. If any one with any sense at all could get passed the two parties one could see clearly they are all in the same dog and pony show they all have one agenda and the beauty of their plan is that too many Americans take what the media and Hollywood has to say as if it were the gospel. To say that the media are told by the right wing as to what they think we need to know I do believe that is true but they do that for either party that is in office at the time. In the grand scheme of things is this what you focus your time on is hating? Vote and be heard but to waste time reading propaganda like this or even like the Sean Hannity's of the world, why hate? No I don't agree we need our morals in legislature nor our money in the hands of the feds that aren't even federal but guess what that's what it is you can't sue the U.S. government for their lack of concern for your quality of life they change their view all the time as to what we should have or not. Yes the conservatives are just as mean spirited and spew hate so why should any one buy their books and follow suit. I do disagree with the liberals on the morality issue But, if you don't believe in morality then move to France they love to hate us then you can pine the day away deciding where to have your café latte for the morning with no real existence. But for those of us that believe that our moral code has been in a book that is more than 3,000 years old (yes I am referring to the Bible) then no man can take that away. Spreading this kind of hate only begets hate spreading the kind of love Christ told us to do can what? Only beget love. Its time for Americans to wake up to this useless propaganda and learn to love our neighbor as our self only then will this be a great country again.
Rating: Summary: Extremely valuable summary Review: I'd like to start with the final portion of the book. The editor ends with a Timeline of events that put some of today's right wing pundits on the map. You may want to start your reading of this book with the timeline. Just a little eye-opening.
That said, you hear from the right that the media are (usually "is" in today's lingo, making the plural "media" into a singular term) left-leaning. This fine book summarizes those who assert that the mainstream media rather are radical left. Of course, they offer no evidence to that effect. When you have a choir singing your tunes, why bother providing any evidence?
I've read and observed many of the pundits covered in the book. But to read a book on or by each is too much to ask. (If you've read any of the pundits' books, well, Ann Coulter is little more than KKK hate literature with finesse; Bill O'Reilly is a blowhard to make Moe of the three stooges blush, and on and on.) In fact, Willis starts with a few pieces on Coulter.
To Coulter's credit, I don't think she even believes most of what she writes. (If she does, she's not taking her meds!) She's just a harlot who knows her audience, the sort of Goebbels propaganda they want to hear. The articles on her, from various publications, on line and print, challenge the facts of Coulter's claims. That, incidentally, is done for virtually all of the pundits exposed by the book. Few have their facts straight. They use their opinions AND the media that sell them to promote themselves. That's about it. Anyway, the articles are easier on Coulter than I would tend to be (as you can see in my words here!)
The next subject is Rush Limbaugh. He's a joke as he's a flunkie who'd been fired from several radio stations, until he found an audience who adores him ("Ditto, Rush!") Fortunately the book was compiled after Limbaugh was caught with pain-killers in his fat face. So, not only is he merely a blowhard with a medium, but a hypocrite off the scale! I even put a greeting card together with a quote from the book under one of the Limbaugh-related articles: "Instead of a sincere and committed conversation about values, they [the right] want a public square filled with `Book of Virtues'-style platitudes, pithy moralisms that are shielded both from debate and from any contact with actual life."
Then there's Bill O'Reilly, one of my favorites, as he's more busy telling those who may dispute him to "Shut up!," then denying that he says it! (Mind you, his "journalism" background consists of tabloid broadcasts, now he's a political guru on Fox, touting "pithy moralisms" until the cows come home.) I do wish the book had been put together after the phone sex settlement that put O'Reilly's platitudes in context. But one can't have everything. As I've said in other Amazon.com reviews, if people would refuse to appear on his show, he'd be history in no time, and civilization may begin to grow again.
Other pundits include more blow-hards, the Leninist turned Leninist David Horowitz, "pseudo-intellectuals" like Willam Kristol, Michael Weiner---errr, Savage. Then there's Sean Hannity, another Fox guru who's written another bestseller, God forbid, of limited factual reliability. Oh, and Matt Drudge (who, if he could write and edit, may become almost human!)
And most of them have the audacity to argue that if we disagree with Dubya, or other neocons, we're enemies of the state! (O'Reilly has used, if I recall, that terminology. Thank you Joe Stalin. You now have a rightwing protégé!
By the way, if you think the authors only decry the right, there are several comments on the factual challenges in Michael Moore's "Fat White Men" book as well.
I'm conscious of the limit on words I'm allowed here, but am also glad for them. There's so much that could be said to encourage you to read this book. Get it and read it. Use it in your arguments with those phonies who argue the lefty media are polluting our dialog. And you won't have to read the screeds produced (usually ghost-written) by these gurus of nonsense.
The book also includes some wit, e.g., anagrams (Bill O'Reilly, Bile or Lilly), specific quotes from many of the pundits-enough to make you keep your kids from listening to them, and an occasional comic.
It's a good summary, despite its title. Read it to keep the right's claims in context.
Rating: Summary: There isn't an "I hate bill clinton, dan rather book" Review: Just a comment on the civility of the right compared to the hatred spewed on the left. It is interesting to note that you cannot find a book with the words "I hate..." and Bill Clinton, Dan Rather, George Stephanopolous, James Carville, etc. Perhaps the respect for a differing view only applies to one side. Perhaps liberals prefer to love someone like Clinton; an accused rapist and serial abuser of women; while saying that they hate people of principle like President Bush. Disagree with him all you want, get your people elected to cause change, vote - but avoid hatred because it is stupid and dangerous. Civility and respect - look it up liberals.
Rating: Summary: Good job of exposing the right wing pundits lack of honesty Review: The word hate is a little strong but obviously meant for effect. The essays in the book expose Ann Coulter and her fellow neocon propagandists for what they really are.
My guess is that the negative reviewers didn't even read the book and never will. But Americans who take seriously their civic responsibilities and really want to know who is atleast trying to be objective and who is trying to turn you into someone suffering from right-wing disciplitis, read this book and then read Coulter and judge for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Cool Review: This book is a collection from newspapers, magazines, other books and some author commentary. This book goes over conservative "pundit's" viewpoints and does fact checking on them. I thought this book would be written by the author as a story in a funny way (like Michael Moore's books or Al Franken's). Instead though, the author goes into detail about the people who make up conservative "pundit's" fan base. Some myths are debunked and facts are checked.
Hopefully a time will come when we can have some real news instead of one-sided media propaganda i.e. Fox News Channel. It would also be nice to take racists - Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, hate & fear mongers - BushCO, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity and perverts- Bill O'Reilly of the air and mainstream.
How hypocritical of people to say: "the titles mean, it says hate". I guess when those people listen to Savage and Limbaugh use slurs against gays, Muslims, Native Americans, women, etc. they think that is different, it is not "hate".
Rating: Summary: To get the background the Conservative talkers leave out... Review: This is actually a good book, if you can get past the rather abrasive title. A collection of essays written by different authors, they go where the Conservative commentators fail to go...to a research desk!
Several decidedly liberal writers took it upon themselves to question and verify alot of the conservative talkers (Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, and their ilk) claims, statements, etc. What is found is an eye opening look at what the conservative hate-spinners are throwing out as discourse. Now, while this book has an obvious bent towards the liberal end, those hungry for truth or fact would do well to read this book and allow critical thinking to rule over the emotional rhetoric spun on the conservative airwaves of late.
If you have a serious interest in understanding truth, you won't necessarily find it here, but it will open your eyes to not simply believing what you hear for face value, and giving you the motivation to learn your own truth as it applies to political ideology.
And the humor found within the covers is an added bonus.
Rating: Summary: Like shooting fish in a barrel Review: Various authors strip away the phoney facade of the right-wing nutters/commentators and how they lie and deceive the American public for the ends of their "corporate sponsors". Republicans will hate this book because it basically shines a flash light on a bunch of hooligans that think they can hide in the darkness and urinate on the truth.
We need more books like this, because the prey is many, but the hunters have been too few.
Rating: Summary: Some great "talking points" for liberals. Review: Whats interesting about many of the books which come out about these people is that most of them are books of humor. This book should be seen as more of the same. In essence, the subjects of these books are so depraved that they can only be discussed in a humorous light. It is a bit scattered in its format but has some good points that the open minded reader can take with them...if they must talk to a conservative.
