Review: Patterson gives a good overview of the formation of the US government and the objectives and innovations of the system. His presentation is balanced, without an obvious agenda or bias. The style is very readable for a text, which many students should appreciate. A good text for an intoductry course. It doesn't contain many insights into problems facing the system, and steers clear of criticism in some instances where it might seem relevant. However, overall I would recommend this title.
