Rating: Summary: One good man Review: Deeply intelligent, in breadth and depth, these articles by Mr. Nader, who has given everything for just causes over nearly half a century, make eloquent, and plain, what so many others believe and either can't, or won't, say.
Rating: Summary: One stop shopping for social justice Review: The October 23rd "review" pretty much sums up why John Kerry and his hysterical Anybody-But-Bush supporters were shellacked this week, while everything Ralph Nader said during the campaign was proved correct. Ignore the subject at hand, be hysterical and irrational, and wave empty slogans ("A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush" -- what does that mean? In Wyoming, where Kerry lost by over 20 points? In D.C., where Bush lost by over EIGHTY points? My vote would never have gone to Kerry under any circumstances....how was my vote for Nader a vote for Bush?)
Meanwhile, Ralph Nader continues on without a break and will now focus on the ridiculous ballot access laws in this country, as well as the subjects touched on in this book. What he "has done for us lately" is to start one new organization after another from 2000 to 2004, advocate on behalf of the District of Columbia's pathetic public library system - left to rot by the D.C. Democratic Party, which has done nothing for anybody in decades - and highlight solutions to other issues that are working right now in localities around the country. Read what he has to say in this book and climb on board. Roll up your sleeves and put up or shut up, Democrats.
Rating: Summary: Pursuit of (In)justice Review: This is a collection of Nader's insightful and bold editorial views. Nader is responsible for some great public policies, such as requirements for seatbelts in cars and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. With this enviable resume, I can see why a million voters are still expressing their interest in voting for Nader.
But what has Ralph Nader done for you lately? I recall that in 2000 he drew 2.74% of the popular vote, taking enough votes from the moderate Al Gore to give the election to George W. Bush. The private sector has lost 1.6 million jobs under Bush, while the budget deficit has emerged anew and politicians such as Tony Blair risk ostracization for siding with the United States.
Nader seems intent to repeat this performance, and I, for one, wish to stop him. By all means, read this book and learn about potentially helpful public policies. But don't vote for Nader, who has admitted he will not win a single state in this election.
If you genuinely believe that Bush is the man for the job, please vote for him. But do not vote for Nader if you consider yourself a progressive; a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush.
