Rating: Summary: Ann Coulter: Nutcase Review: Instead of taking the time to research FACTS about "liberal" lies, Coulter rants and raves like a lunatic, claiming how stupid liberals are. Her endnotes (not footnotes) are inaccurate, and if you decide to research them you will find that her claims were quoted out of context, or she was the one blatantly lying. As a rebuttal to her lies I recommend a book by Al Franken..Lies, and the liars that are telling them: A fair and balanced look at the right. To sum up Coulter in a word: Nutcase!
Rating: Summary: An abortion of hateful invective... Review: ...that relies on specious arguments backed up by fabulations known to the author to be lies
I wonder if she screams so loudly about (her perception of) "liberal" attidudes and biases because she fears that she is guilty of posessing these same biases. Then again, assigning "attributes" based on political ideology would be lazy -- oddly enough, one of the sins she accuses liberals of in the pages of her tome.
Does it not strike anyone odd that the woman who described Katy Couric as an "affiable Eva Braun" would describe the current political situation as insufferable? Apparently she bridles at the fact that I, as an American, can call George Bush the same things she was calling Bill Clinton. Or that I was calling Bill Clinton.
Finally, Ann Coulter would be a wonderful satirist ... were she not apparently serious. For instance, in Al Frankens book Lying Liars and the Lies they Tell, there was only one joke in the Endnotes (and only one endnote, incidentally having to do with the subject of this post). However, all of Ann Coulters jokes are consigned her endnotes -- like the one where she accuses the NY Times of asking whether the "Nazi war crimes [drew] on Christian tradition". But you have to look up the endnote to find out that the quote is from a book review about a 400-year old Bavarian play (incidentally written by Paul Berman, who has authored a tolerable book called "Terror and Liberalism" which many people here would profit from actually reading).
Astute readers will note that this example is drawn from Al Franken and that all information contained in the chapters "Ann Coulter: Nutcase" and "You know who I dont like? Ann Coulter" has inexpliciply not been discredited by the site "FrankenLies.com". So she accuses the NY Times (subject of an absolutely killing! joke about Tim McVeigh) of some sort of hatred of Christianity; one wonders how her relationship with the Almighty stands (Id venture, not very well, since "Thou Shalt Not Lie" seems to have her confused). Please note that I do not accuse Ann Coulter of "dissembelling", i accuse her of lying. (a "lie" being defined as a statement of fact at variance with reality and known by her who states it to be so at the time of statement). She is a liar, and nothing that comes out of her mouth can be trusted. I honestly do not care whether you read this book, but please borrow it from a local library or a trusted friend. Please dont encourage her.
Rating: Summary: Where's the Truth??? Review: Ann Coulter wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and slapped her in the face. She takes small tid bits of information and tries to fill in around it. What she can't use to make her point she makes up. If this is who the conservatives are turning to for their views? Then God help us all.
Rating: Summary: This one will get your blood pressure up! Review: Ann Coulter's Slander is definitely an interesting read. But if you are prone to being upset by the open hostility that American conservatives suffer at the hands of liberal Democrats everyday, reading this book will really make your blood pressure soar. Be prepared! With more than 700 footnotes throughout the 9 chapters and conclusion of this book, Ms. Coulter's exhaustive research leaves little room for liberals to "cry foul." Indeed, you're left wondering how in the world we, as Americans, have allowed the liberal left's monopoly of mainstream national media to continue. I believe any rational person, regardless of his or her political views, should be angered at the obvious manipulation we have all suffered at the hands of the media. Manipulation that will become even more obvious to you after reading this book. I really enjoyed the fact that this book was not "dumbed down" to such a low reading level that you feel as if you're being spoon-fed the information. But on the other hand, Ms. Coulter's style of writing is not over the heads of those, like myself, who have no political experience and who are just recently starting to delve into the realm of political reading. The only issue I had with this book at all was that Ms. Coulter had a tendency to simply mention a person's name or a former newsworthy event without really explaning any details about that person or event. Therefore, if you're like me and you never really cared about or paid attention to politics before, some of the points she makes may require further research on your own. But if you've kept up with mainstream politics for the last 20 or so years, you will be able to read this book quickly and smoothly, without interruption to go on the Internet and find out who in the world she is talking about.
Rating: Summary: holy smokes! Review: Ann has done it again! She is so incredibly sarcastic and succint. I enjoyed every page. She gets right down to the point and jabs the virtual screwdriver into the liberal back. Every word just is twist of the metal and "ouch" to the left. If you are a lefty, boy, watch out, you will come away incensed and stymied, especially when she talks about how liberals hate the religious. Oh, my. How can the media be the way they? Ann has the proof - over 35 PAGES of references to newspaper articles, internet web pages and plenty of books. She refers to lexus-nexus over and over as a resource for her arguments on how the left and the media continues to bash the president and conservative values. References and proof are what we lack most in all of the mass media propaganda that we can shoved down our throats on a daily basis. Good going Ann! What a contrast!
Rating: Summary: This book can also be applied to Europe Review: As a european I enjoyed the truth of this book. This book outlays some of the tactics used by the left with a special focus on the media.
I was astounded to realize that Europe and America does not differ that much. The struggle in the United States is also being played out in the European Union.
So I can therefore freely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Debunked... Review: Exposed, discredited oh so many times, oh so many ways, by oh so many people. Wearing short skirts, and crossing your legs on TV while making outrageous statements only gets ya only so far, and only lasts so long, hon. Bring on the next radical right wing chick, please. Ann's a discredited bore at this point.
Rating: Summary: Slander: A Very Appropriate Title Review: I have given this book 1 star because of the shameful technique Ann uses to get her readers on her side by misleading them with simple lies and fabrications. Starting off, Ann herself is a very suspicious character. Her Connecticut driver's license states she was born in 1961, while the newer DC drivers license states she was born in 1963. This means, under the Patriot Act, that Ann has lied on a Government I.D., which is a violation of federal law. I find it interesting that the writer of this book is a criminal, as well as the writer of this statement days after 9/11: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity." Wow. This coming from a supposedly bipartisan writer. ANyway, because of that comment on the internet, she had to stop writing her column. That should at least lower her credibility level when reading this book. Ann's main message is that the mainstream media is liberally biased. Any person that is not biased and/or not criminally insane, which would both exclude Ann, can see that the media is horribly biased to the right-wing. Just look at Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity's radio dominance, and the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News Channel and New York Post (Great exclusive you ran on Gephardt, Rupert). Simple examples of Ann's lies would include her claiming the NY Times never ran the story about Jesse Jackson and his controversial Chrismas Day speech on British TV, when a simple LexisNexis search of the NY Times archives of "Jesse Jackson and Christmas and Britain" shows that the Times did print the story, with excerpts from the speech. However, in Ann's endnotes, it shows she searched "Jesse Jackson and Germany and fascism and South Africa" which did not turn up any results, because, well, the article didn't mention such unrelated subjects like SOuth AFrica. Even when she cites her facts, she chooses not to cite with a simple footnote at the bottom of the page, but to use endnotes that appear at the very end of the book. She seems to think her readers are too lazy to actually check her "facts", so she doesn't need to back up her case with reliable, undeniable sources in footnotes. Well, I guess she was right. My advice to future readers, be aware that this woman can make up things, and to not believe every word she says. Instead, believe the untampered facts. (Also, in trying to show the NY Times was liberally biased, Ann used pro-Communism quotes that she took from a book review and a quote of a quote, and these articles were published 3 years apart. Read Al Franken's book (Liesand the lying liars..) for more proof of Ann's lies, because there simply aren't enough words to use in this review, and frankly I'm getting tired of making such an easy case of how Ann lies.)
Rating: Summary: transgendered and transfixing! Review: I knew Ann back when she called herself Tex Watson -- and it is truly thrilling to see how well she has done.
She's been keeping her Adam's Apple mighty busy attacking liberals -- and she has a point. My only difficulty with Ann's material is when she delves into the politics of transgenderism. Christine Jorgensen still seems more intelligent, more cultured than Ann. But let's give the estrogen some time -- and greet Ann's book with the same generosity of spirit she has given to so many.
Rating: Summary: A stunning indictment of the modern media...... Review: One word comes to mind to describe Ann Coulter's writing style: pithy. This book successfully describes in brilliant detail the day-to-day numbing of public opinion by a few powerful media types in New York City that control all of the news we as citizens receive and govern our lives by. I agree completely with her analysis of the NY Times as a bastion of left-wing reactionism, and outright hatred for the current President Bush. For example, terms like "enormous Bush tax cut that caused the deficits we now face..." that isn't news, that's commentary! Yet the Times will say that in their straight stories, not the editorials only. Her take on Katie Couric and the Today show is right on the money, how they, in their own perky morning way, try and slant stories towards a Leftist point of view time and time again. A work like this is especially important now, when our country faces the imminent threat of attack and we are relying on the media to give us the straight story and not advance a political agenda or try and pull down our President. Hopefully, this will have the effect of raising the awareness of enough people in this country to realize we shouldn't just accept the gutless reactionism of left-wing media types. Go get 'em Ann!!!!
