Summary: A Military and Political Epic
Review: Robert "Buzz" Patterson is quickly and forcefully establishing himself as a premier voice on military and politico affairs. I read his first book, Dereliction of Duty, and was knocked out by Clinton's lack of focus or concern for national security. I picked up this book based on an interview I heard Buzz give on a local radio station in Cleveland. In a word, WOW! If the American people would read this book, not only would they not vote for John Kerry, they'd never vote for another liberal candidate again until they get their ideology straight.

Patterson does a tremendous job articulating the failures of today's prominent liberal politicians. He, of course, served in the Clinton administration as military aide and carried the Nuclear Football. His insight into Bill and Hillary is eyewitness stuff and very damning. More info than he revealed in Dereliction of Duty. He similarly dismantles the presidency of Jimmy Carter, the president Patterson says "who just won't go away." He saves his best stuff for John Forbes Kerry.

Patterson details Kerry's Vietnam experience, much in a similar vein to the Swift Boat guys and their book. Patterson goes much further, though, with a look at how Kerry's post-war treason resulted in our POWs being tortured and more of Kerry's former peers, his band of brothers as it were, lost their lives. Patterson's best work on Kerry is when he systematically disects Kerry's 20 year voting record in the senate. As Patterson points out, Kerry's record in terms of failing to support defense and our intelligence agencies is way to the left of even Teddy Kennedy and Dennis Kucinich!! Nuff said!

Finally, Patterson concludes with "Who Would Osama Vote For?" Did you know that Al Jazeera has endorsed Kerry for president, so had Kim Jung Il, the wacko communist in North Korea, so has Spain, so has France. Kerry calls terrorism a "nuisance." Tell that to our men and women fighting the war on terror. Kerry wants to defer the war on terror to the UN, Kofi Annan, and our pals in France and Germany. No thanks!

This is a tremendous and well-written book. Patterson is an up and coming star. Educate yourself! You owe it to your country.

Summary: God save us from the McGovernick liberals!
Review: The liberals love all whistleblowers except the kind that target THEM! In his previous book Dereliction of Duty retired Air Force Lt. Col. Patterson drew a less than flattering first hand portrait of his one time boss Bill Clinton as commander in chief. This time he takes on the post Viet Nam liberals en mass and chronicles in considerable detail the sorry and pathetic history of the foreign policy and national security blunders of the Carter and Clinton Administrations which led to the current war on terror. Whereas previous Democratic presidents had taken their national security role quite seriously these two men and their entire generation of like-minded liberals are quite different. They think like Europeans, not Americans, and blame all the world's problems on America rather than the bad guys, and to cap it off, they have a deeply ingrained loathing for the military. I, myself, served as an officer in the USMC during Jimmy Carter's presidency and was not surprised that he couldn't find six or so helicopters in the whole US inventory capable of conducting a rescue mission in 1979. You see, I served in the air wing myself and remember how little capability we had due to lack of spare parts and equipment, not to mention the resulting training deficiencies. I remember quite vividly how I felt when Mr. Carter gave blanket amnesty to all the draft dodgers who took their sorry tails to Canada. Thank you, sir, for showing such little regard for those of us who met our military obligation and DIDN'T cut and run. Which brings us to the Democratic party of today, the Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, John Kerry CUT AND RUN party. The party of waffles and wobbly knees when the threat of violence is imminent. The party that failed to learn anything from Munich 1938. The party that thinks that pleasing countries like France ought to be a major foreign policy objective. The party that has a high regard for the UN. The party that always wants to cut defense spending and then is shocked when bad guys fail to fear us. The party that always wants to cut intelligence funding and then searches for someone to blame when we get hit by sneak attacks. The party that won't let the military train properly because it might disturb the ENVIRONMENT. The party that wants gays to serve openly in the military and women to serve in combat because it's what they believe in. The party that never, ever wants to fight anyway, for any reason, because in their fantasy world they don't believe that civilized people should use violence to solve problems. The party that believes that you can get along with anybody, that bad guys are merely misunderstood, or were victims of mistreatment or neglect. The party where every single senator voted to keep Bill Clinton as president after his trial. Now THAT is moral leadership. And then there is the career of the great anti terrorism expert Mr. Richard Clarke. It's all here in this book. Read it, throw up, and then say a prayer of thanks to the voters of the red states for re-electing George W. Bush.

Summary: Timely, Critically Important, and Marvelously Written
Review: This book will be an important element in the political discourse this summer. In fact, President Bush ought to rely on it for his talking points. Author Patterson meticulously presents his argument that, since the mid-1960s, liberal Democrats have been miserable failures when it comes to overseeing the US military and national defense. He outlines the liberal dilemma: born from the anti-war movement of Vietnam, libs cannot escape their own ideological shackles. As a result, and illustrated in the failed leadership of Carter, Clinton, and ergo Kerry, Dems are not qualified for the role of commander-in-chief. ESPECIALLY in these challenging days of terrorist threats.

Patterson makes some very bold statements. But coming from this former Air Force officer, pilot, and military aide to Clinton, he has the bona fides and the courage to do so...and does so very effectively.

Extremely well-written, Patterson uniquely blends factually-based argument with brilliant narrative. The reader is left understanding not only that liberals cannot be trusted with the stewardship of our military but, equally important, why that matters so much to our men and women in uniform. A definite must read!

Summary: Passionate, Compelling Page-Turner
Review: This is the best book I've ever read on how the U.S. military fits into American politics. It's readily apparent: Buzz Patterson cares about our troops and cares about America's future.

This is the narrative from Ch 10, Winning: George W. Bush and the Art of Command:

"The chosen men of the U.S. military's special operation forces knelt on the concrete hangar floor on the barren island of Masirah. It was oppressively hot even as the sun set. Twenty-two years before, this spit of land fifteen miles off the coast of Oman had been the launch site for Desert One, officially known as Operation Eagle Claw, the disasterous attempt under Jimmy Carter to rescue American diplomats kidnapped and held hostage by the radical Islamic Iranian government. Tonight, with renewed vigor, morale and purpose born under the leadership of President George W. Bush, these elite warriors were preparing to take the first shot in America's war against terrorism. The terrorist group al-Qaeda had brought war to our homeland. These American warriors were about to take it back to the enemy.

Only a month after September 11, 2001, commander in chief Bush was sending a clear message to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. Clinton was gone: There would be no more 'pinpricks.' no more ineffective missile strikes from hundreds of miles away. No, 'We will come to you at a time and a place of our choosing, with American military boots on the ground, we will defend the freedom and liberties of our nation, we will find you and we will kill you' was the message."

Patterson weaves actual accounts of military operations over the last twenty years with the political framework from which they arose. The conclusion: America cannot trust today's version of the Democratic liberal....Carter and Clinton failed. Clinton gave us the terrorism fiasco. Patterson is all over it as he should be, he was Clinton's military aide in the 1990s.

Artfully written, this book will both anger you and make you cry. If you are a proud American, read it and stand taller. If you seek to subvert American sovereignty and mold America in Western Europe's image, you'll feel ashamed.

Our troops deserve our best and Patterson tells their story. Excellent read and one that you'll want to go back to again and again.

Summary: Title
Review: To start off, im not liberal. I am anti-abortion and disagreed with some views that Kerry held. But to get to the book, Robert Patterson is a millitary man and after reading this it is obvious that he believes in all the history of the United States, the millitary has done no wrong. Soldiers were all perfect and served honorable in Vietnam which most people know is absolute crap. Thousands and thousands of Vietnam vets served this country honorable my uncle being one. But many soldiers did participate in hanus crimes against the Vietnamese people. Young men in that enviroment were pushed but that does not provide an excuse. Patterson at the end of the book, and one of the funniest parts, says he dislikes Kerry because he commited treason in his anti-Vietnam speeches. Kerry commited no treason whatsoever and did something that few people wanted to do, told the truth.
The book has some parts that I absolutley loved. The first is how Mr. Patterson bases his comparison on leadership between Kerry and Bush with military service. Are you kidding me. Next time Mr. Patterson try making your point with someone who actually SERVED. The parts where Mr. Patterson describes how Bush looked in his uniform are hilarious. You can say what you want about Kerry's service but dont compare it to a panzy who used Daddy's money to avoid actual service.
Who would Osama vote for was another intresting chapter. Patterson clearly states that Osama would vote for Kerry even though before the election he said the american people's safety lies in neither Bush or Kerry (Osama did). IM sure Osama is shaking in his boots because Bush was elected. God he only waged the biggest attack on America during his term and is still alive today thanks to the Bush administrations war in Afghanistan(which by the way I support fully even though it is one of the worst planned invasions in recent history next to the war in Iraq). Muslims, not fundamentalist but actual Muslims Mr. Patterson, wanted Kerry to win because they knew a chance with peace could occur without 100,00 people dying in Iraq with a reckless war. Fundamentalist Muslims dont care who wins. Kerry nor Bush is Muslim so no matter what, they will still hate us no matter who wins. The War on Terrorism that Bush is fighting is hopeless. Everyday, with troops in Saudi Arabia and the war in Iraq, more Muslims are learning to hate America. Bush is not a leader Mr. Patterson and honestly you might be right neither is Kerry. But President Bush is not the leader you say he is. The best part is that Mr. Bush fits the description of your book better than any liberal. Our soldiers are endangered because they dont have sufficient equipment and armor, and our security is jeapordized because now that Bush doesnt care about allies, and put us in a war we cant win and shouldnt be paticipating in, our security is stable.
One thing I can say is is that the book reads well. Just to bad that Mr. Patterson who thinks the Military is infallible, writes a lot of crap.
